Joe Lieberman Abandons Presidential Bid
ARLINGTON, Va. - Sen. Joe Lieberman, unable to inspire Democratic voters who embraced his 2000 vice presidential campaign, ended his presidential bid Tuesday night after a string of disappointing defeats. He said he believed his "mainstream voice" was the right message for his party, but acknowledged that voters disagreed.

"The judgment of the voters is now clear," Lieberman told supporters gathered at a hotel in northern Virginia. " For me, it is now time to make a difficult but realistic decision. I have decided tonight to end my quest for the presidency of the United States of America. Am I disappointed? Naturally. But am I proud of what we stood for in this campaign? You bet I am."

Plagued with problems from the start, Lieberman's first problem was a pledge to not run for president if former running mate Al Gore sought the nomination. The pledge, inspired by his gratitude to Gore for choosing him as running mate in 2000, put Lieberman months behind other candidates who were raising money and hiring top staff.

Just last month, Gore delivered a major blow to his former running mate's campaign by endorsing Dean. The slight briefly invigorated the campaign, but it was all too much for his stumbling campaign to overcome.

2. Joe, ya shoulda known that after 2000...
In my mind he has always been weak and was a poor choice for Al in 2000. If you're gonna be a dem, be a DEM.

3. He displayed good character, and tried to offer support to
his supporters in the process. It was a classy speech.

6. Good riddance...I hope he now joins the GOP where he belongs
He's embarassed all democrats by appearing on Faux attacking democrats and supporting Bush. He now knows that he's earned the country's contempt.

7. I Hope He Stays Democrat
He represents a legitmate part of the Party. One I disagree with and hope to overshadow with a progressive groundswell, but I don't think kicking people out of the club for thinking different is the way to go.

PS - They've all (except maybe Edwards and Braun) gone on Fox to attack Democrats.

8. So much for Jo-mentum, possibly the single most wrong headed
political slogan I can ever remember hearing.

Bye, bye, Joe. At least you still have your Senate seat to go back to, just like in 2000

9. Catcha Later Joe
He gave a classy concession speech. I respect him much more after hearing him graciously thank his opponents and pledge to beat Bush.
