Voter Registration -- how about some activism?
Edited on Fri May-19-06 09:57 AM by lwcon
Time for some good ol' liberal guilt.

I'm talking to you. Did you ever tell another poster "we've got better things to do"?

Fine, we'll let's do something. And is there a better thing we can do right now than get people registered to vote?

The GOP's base is all registered up. How about ours?

Can we work together here and help get this done???

( reposted from http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=2574632 )

There are four parts to winning in November:

* Getting people registered
* Getting people to the polls
* Getting people to vote Democratic
* Making sure the vote counts are honest

What can we do to get started with the first one -- what online (and other) resources and strategies do you recommend for getting people registered?

Rock the Vote is the most famous, but it may be too hipsterish for some voters. Your Vote Matters looks like a reasonable alternative. Are there better choices?

Anecdotally, one hears that minority voters are under-registered. Is that true, and what can we do to help? FYI, The NAACP's National Voter Fund page doesn't seem to have been updated in quite some time: http://www.naacpnvf.org.

Now that that the GOP has shown its true feelings toward our Latin population, activism in that community may be among our best-spent efforts. Given the stunning ability of the Latin community to organize the recent protests, is this already well-in-hand, and are their good organizations we should donate to, to help them with get-out-the-vote activism?

Also, is there a recommended process that will ensure that voters don't find, when they show up at the polls, that they've been wrongly thrown off the rolls, as thousands of (mostly) minority voters discovered in Florida in 2000.

1. I agree!! Here's a couple of Links I found -
Register Five Democrats for 2006.

http://www.registerfivedemocrats.com/

Our sole reason for existence at Register Five Democrats (RFD)
is to get Democratic candidates elected to Congress and the Senate
for the 2006 midterm elections.
In order to attain this end, we at RFD intend to register as many
progressive voters as is humanly possible for this election.

Don't just sit on your butt and complain about the ugliness of the Bush administration.

Get active!

Become a member of Register Five Democrats.

There are five levels of RFD membership:

Blue Member's Level:

• a person who registers 5 voters.

True Blue Member's Level:

• a person who registers 25 voters.

Silver Member's Level:

• a person who registers 25 voters and 5 Blue RFD Members.

Gold Member's Level:

• a person who registers 125 voters and 5 Blue RFD Members.

Platinum Member's Level:

• a person who registers 625 voters and 5 True Blue RFD Members.

Each level of RFD membership bestows unique rewards to its members -- both for registering
a specific number of people to vote and for recruiting a specific number of new RFD members.
Of course, the rewards for each Register Five Democrats membership level become increasingly
more special and esteemed the higher up one rises in the RFD membership hierarchy.
(Please note that we at Register Five Democrats make no promises that Democratic politicians
will willingly agree to and comply with RFD's reward system.
Participation in Register Five Democrats is strictly voluntary at all levels.
Again, we promise nothing.)

As many as 6.2 million Americans live and work outside of the United States,

2. Funny you should bring this up today..
I'll be registering handicapped people at a presentation on using the handicapped equipment this afternoon.

Several handicapped facilities and organizations should be represented and believe me, most of this population does not vote conservative.

Which me luck - I hope to register twenty at minimum. Many will already be registered.
