Really. In a post at Crooked Timber titled
"STFU Syndrome" *snarf* there's a snip by an annoyingly loquacious member of Instapundit, who is worrying over some comrades who've gone all wobbly-
I think all three may be suffering some variant of PTSD, worn down by defending difficult positions at the forefront of the battle against irredentist Democrats in Congress and their fifth-column in the media.
It’s easier to verbally support defense of the ramparts of Western civilization from thousands of miles away than to endure the daily tensions and split-decisions of the actual battlefield ....I feel fatigue has set in, along with some degree of localitis, mistaking their angst for others’, and while recognizing a larger strategic setting overfocusing on their portion....
...I wish them a speedy recovery, before more adversaries are allowed to breach the walls because of their petulance.
Well, take two aspirin and call one of the THREE BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT that your party controls in the morning.
If the GOP ever did have any "grassroots", they are in trouble now. Here are some of the striken warriors, in search of a virtual Walter Reed-
Mark Tapscott says: "Karl Rove reportedly has a plan to 'stir up' the base to again save the Republicans’ electoral bacon, but conservatives won’t be satisfied this time around with more token efforts on issues like marriage and dire warnings that 'the Democrats would be far worse.'"
Ed Morrissey at
Captains Quarters writes "Now, however, Bush has gone more than one step too far on several fronts, and conservatives have finally allowed themselves to dissent."
Professor Stephen Bainbridge has "Bush fatigue" and cites Bush's "Inability to admit error" and his "Entrenched anti-intellectualism" among other things, as being enough of a reason "to make one go into political hibernation until 2012".
Last week, having been overcome by the contentiousness of the immigration issue, the
"Anchoress" says she's "off politics for now". She says that her fellow conservatives and the press (overlooking all the "good" bush has done) are making her sick.
There's more. Via Digby, Hotline
reports-
If you thought immigration was dividing the GOP, just look what its doing to the righty blogosphere. The group-blog site Polipundit has been ripped asunder by the issue. Lorie Byrd at Byrd Droppings explains: "I received a lengthy email from Polipundit tonight alerting us to an editorial policy change that included the following: "From now on, every blogger at PoliPundit.com will either agree with me completely on the immigration issue, or not blog at PoliPundit.com.".....Polipundit ended a later email with this: "It's over. The group-blogging experiment was nice while it lasted, but we have different priorities now. It's time to go our own separate ways."
And you thought WE had problems. Everyday I come across something written by a liberal, either here at DU or on a blog that just...sings! Something with wisdom and clarity, and if not a solution then a constructive distillation of a problem that reveals the hope of one. That's after Five Years Going On Six of crazy-making.
Go on. Gloat for a minute.
