nominate a rat and this Congress would approve it.
I'm so disgusted and feel we are doomed. We are going to be spied on in every way possible and nobody is going to do anything about it.Did anyone notice that Specter backed down on NSA and let * poop on him?
Specter strikes NSA deal
By Alexander Bolton
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and conservative members of his panel have reached agreement on legislation that may determine the legality of the National Security Agency’s (NSA) surveillance program, GOP sources say.
Specter has mollified conservative opposition to his bill by agreeing to drop the requirement that the Bush administration seek a legal judgment on the program from a special court set up by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) of 1978.
Instead, Specter agreed to allow the administration to retain an important legal defense by allowing the court, which holds its hearings in secret, to review the program only by hearing a challenge from a plaintiff with legal standing, said a person familiar with the text of language agreed to by Specter and committee conservatives. ...

From a blog:
Specter Caves
It's hard to know where to start, except to say, I told you so.
He's in the bag.
He's on the team.
He's with the boss.
Senator Specter and the rubber stamp Republicans on the Judiciary Committee have sold this country out to offer cover to a man who has not earned it, does not deserve it and has proven he will use this cover at every turn at the expense of this country and the people who are supposed to have the real power, ordinary citizens. The president gets yet another pass.
The details in The Hill article today make you want to scream. What Specter has done is basically cave to conservatives on a point of importance so huge as to give George W. Bush cover in every illegal wiretapping he does or will do in the future. Specter caved and made Bush's illegal wiretapping legal, by virture that the FISA court will never weigh in on its legality. In essence, Bush can wiretap anyone and if someone or some group has a problem they can't directly ask the FISA court for a ruling because, according to Specter and the rest of the Bush presidential pimps, it would hurt Bush's ability to defend the position in court. Glenn Greenwald dissects it further, but that's the gist of it.
