> BERLIN, 1936--A majority of Germans support the "Final Solution", a once controversial program to rid the German nation of its strongest domestic enemies, according to a recent poll conducted by the Goebbels-founded newspaper Der Angriff.
>
> The new survey found that 63 percent of the German people said they found the program to be an acceptable way to combat moral weakness and economic woes, including 44 percent who strongly endorsed the effort. Another 35 percent said the program was unacceptable, which included 24 percent who strongly objected to it. (Those 35 percent are due to be rounded up any day now, which should boost approval for the program significantly).
>
> A slightly larger majority--66 percent--said they would not be bothered if the SS collected records of personal telegrams and postal mail they had written in order to seek out traitors in their midst, the poll found.
>
> Underlying those views is the belief that the need to investigate treason and economic sabotage outweighs privacy concerns. According to the poll, 65 percent of those interviewed said it was more important to investigate potential threats "even if it intrudes on privacy." Three in 10--31 percent--said it was more important for the federal government not to intrude on personal privacy, even if that limits its ability to investigat.......

2. Dates are off - Final Solution 1942 not 1936.
Parody works better if it is littered with verifiable facts rather than glaring anomalies.

3. While correcting dates maybe we could also take notice of.............
.....the similarities between 1939-1945 Nazi Germany to the US today.

4. I just posted it as a knew jerk reaction to how people think--as, in peopl
e seemed to think the final solution was ok at one point and now many -according to that silly abc poll----seem to think that snooping is ok.

I was trying to capture the broad sentiments. I leave the specifics to all those who know the facts (not I).

6. 1942 is the date
it put on paper and given a name, this was at the Wannsee conference. In reality it had been going on for years, the reason for the conference was in part because the Nazi's found their methods too slow and disorganized.

7. I understand that.
My only point was that the parody would work better if the dates at least matched up with the official 'Final Solution'. You can't have a poll about a government program before the program actually exists.

5. Years ago,
I talked to this German woman who lived in Germany during the Nazi era. She worked for the company I worked for. Anyway, I was always fascinated by how all the Nazi craziness could have happened, so I waited until I was alone with her, so I could question her about what it was like to live then -right in the middle of it all.

There we were, drinking our coffee in the lounge area when I brought it up. She said she had vivid memories of everything , so we talked about the war, the bombing, what life was like there Etc… I was riveted by all her stories. and then I asked about how it was that the German people could have allowed all those Jews (at the time I thought the only victims were Jews) to be exterminated. She just nonchalantly brushed the question aside and said the only people who were killed were the “trash” and “low life’s” and “criminals” etc…That the claims that millions of Jewish people were exterminated were untrue. I think she genuinely thought that.

She could have just been in denial or just didn’t want to admit anything, but I really think she believed that only criminal types were killed. She did say it in such a way that sounded like it was justified some how, which irked me. Anyway, I’ll never forget our conversation.
