Bush on a four legged stool....the speech on Monday....Immigration
Picture Bush tied to the top of a high stool with four legs.Bush must make a speech convincing everyone (but especially any REPUBLICANS) not to rip a leg off (lose points in a poll) or he will fall a long way to the floor, smashing his head on his base.
Let's label the legs "Stationing Border Troops" "Stopping Current Illegal Aliens""Deporting Long Term Illegal Aliens" and "Inviting Guest Workers". My best guess is that he tries to thread the needle by trying support for 1+2 and amnesty for #3 along with a push for #4.But he MUST have all four legs.I like to think that most of us here would tear off "border guards" and "long term aliens"....but being democrats, that wouldn't bother him much...But OH MY!!! look what republicans will do....
Group A:xenophobes/fundy base.....3 legs remain-rip off that "guest worker" leg,Billy Bob....
Group B:Buisness....Guest workers have rights-Jesus! that's almost as bad as hiring citizens....Tear off 1,2 and 4.....Bye Dear Leader
Group C: Old Time Republicans...Posse Commitatus,enforce our laws,Enforce our laws,OK.
In short, there is NO base demographic that leaves Bush safe on the stool and MORE than half will be pissed off...Yep he will rally a few points in the "believing base"(Those who believe in religion AND those who believe in his promises) but it will be more than offset by the sucking sound of withdrawn support from the less than delusional (if somewhat slow) majority of the right....
Monday Bush will try to ride (simultaneously) the Four Horses of the Immigration Apocalypse. It's gonna be quite a fall.....

1. The immigration battle is
a battle between corporatists and xenophobes. That is a party splitter.

2. Meanwhile, after months of publicity...
the "Minuteman movement" turnred out to be just a handful of racist loonies....

"They should be rounded up and deported, every single one of them," John Clark of the American Immigration Control Foundation said to a cheering crowd of about two dozen. "Leave them here and in 10 years this will not be the United States of America."
