Michigan Gov. Granholm unveils universal healthcare plan
Gov. Jennifer Granholm unveiled a universal health care plan for Michigan on Thursday designed to cover all 1.1 million state residents who are currently uninsured.

The proposal, patterned after a law recently passed in Massachusetts, is an expansion of a plan announced in January that would provide health coverage to the 550,000 Michiganians below 200 percent of the poverty level -- which is $38,700 for a family of four.

Her new plan also would offer health care insurance to the working poor above that level who don't have coverage. The state would subsidize premiums on a sliding scale depending on family income. It's uncertain how much participants would have to pay.

"We want everyone to have access to quality health care in an affordable way," Granholm said at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

5. I think the Fed govt will intervene to stop this spreading horror!!!
Iamgine, the states are taking it upon themselves to provide for their citizens somethng that the Federal govt has refused to do!!!!
That is REALLY overstepping the bounds of states' rights!!!
:sarcasm:

They are trying to not allow states to have stricter air quality standards than the federal govt, let's just see how the BushCo puts up with this "infringement".

3. Great governor.
She's got a tight race against a real lunatic (Amway boss, DeVos).

I hope she pulls away in the polls before the election.

That's because he's been running ads like crazy.

Once Granholm's campaign gets going, I think the momentum will turn her/our way.

BTW.... For more, check out the link in my sig line.

6. This is great news.
We need healthcare in Michigan, badly. We have the highest unemployment rate in the country, and that translates into low healthcare rates.

Yes, the repub state congress will most likely shoot it down, but that can only hurt them and help Granholm.

It's not that great, but while we used to have the worst, this is no longer the case.

11. Great!
We need to get back to persuing the liberal agenda.... universal healthcare is the first step, and long overdue.

Our party lost it's mojo some time ago and it's time that we got it back.

Bravo to Granholm.

14. She Is Hot
and very nice and smart. I attended some basketball games to watch my granddaughter and Gov. Granholm had a daughter on the team also. I have seen many people approach her for help or to talk or what ever during the games. She was always polite to all and as helpful as she could be. She is a great person and makes you proud to be a Democrat. She represents us very, very, well. She will engage soon and Devos won't know what hit him.

16. I once got into a big pissing match with Granholm.
When she was corp. counsel for Wayne County it was my job to approve and pay travel expenses. One day she sent me a request for payment that was just outrageous - I forget the exact amount but well over $200.00 for a meal, I believe, and no receipt. Policy at that time was to pay only $25.00 per meal. Of course I kicked it back with a note telling her she needed to resubmit for the proper amount and provide receipt. A couple of days later, the director of my department came over and asked me why I didn't pay the bill. I showed her the info I was given and said that it would have been againt policy. She asked me if I knew who I was dealing with so I told her I did and that I was sticking to my guns. I give my director credit for supporting my decision on that. Anyway, I got a couple of calls from Jennifer (angry, of course), but in the end I think I ended up paying her about twenty bucks or so - with receipt.

I was left with a lousy impression of her after that and really had to hold my nose to vote for her as A.G. for Michigan to replace the wonderful Frank Kelly. I was even irritated that my wife worked on her campaign. I'm so very glad she proved me wrong by working her ass off to be a fantastic A.G. and I was happy to vote for her as governor. Either she's matured greatly or I just caught her at a bad time, I guess.

So that's my Granholm story. If anyone want's to hear how I told off John Dingells son, Chris, just let me now. }(

18. Easy enough to fix....
If the GOP manages to change the rules so that Arnold can run, then the field is wide open for Grisholm.
