1. I'll miss Lieberman.
I really like Lieberman's stance on social and cultural issues. It's a pity that there aren't more like him in the party. If there were then we would never lose an election ever again.

I hope Lieberman does well in Florida.

2. I watched Joe on CSpan last night.
Talking to people at an OK boat show for about an hour and I sort of feel guilty for the bashing I always give him. He's seems like a genuinely nice person and has a real warmth about him that doesn't come across in his political speeches or debates. I don't agree with a lot of his politics but I now like the guy. Good Luck Joe!

3. He was great at the boat show.
Very personable. I've always thought he has a fabulous sense of humor. I'll miss that at the debates if he drops out.

4. Joe Lieberman stands his ground and speaks his mind with conviction
You can't slam a man for that. For all the bashing I've done of Joe, please forgive me, I was wrong.

Joe is a good man, and I'll just agree to disagree with him from now on, but I will never ever question his character or integrity again.

Peace.

8. Lieberman is a class act
Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 08:54 PM by Isere
This is a man who stands by his beliefs and doesn't cater to the crowd. He has endured booing throughout the primary season but has not wavered from his positions. He is an example of grace under fire. His voting record is very progressive, but many Democrats here choose to ignore that because of his moderate views on some social issues. I didn't agree with his vote on the Iraq war, but I give him credit for standing by his position and not trying to fudge it for the folks in the stands.

Lieberman has a charming, self-deprecating sense of humor. He has served very honorably in the Senate.

He will not be the nominee and he probably didn't have much of a chance to begin with because his pro-war stand is out of synch with the Democratic base.

I feel sorry that he has been so ill-used on this board and have found the glee with which he is routinely trashed to be very unbecoming.

So long, Senator Lieberman.

9. Joe flip flops on issues less than any other candidate, if ever
He holds his ground and does what he thinks is best for this country. I don't agree with some of his positions, but I admire the hell out of the way he holds his ground. Hopefully he will remain a great Senator for many years to come.

Don

Although I oftentimes disagreed with him, Vice President Lieberman always stood his ground, even when his opinions happened to be unpopular. There's a good man, there.

23. A man of integrity
Joe Lieberman is to be applauded for being a man of his convinctions. He defended his stance on the war unapologetically, even when it might have been more popular to dilute the issue. He was unafraid of incurring the wrath of Democratic primary voters. He stood for something, and did not back down. I'll be glad to have him back in the Senate where he remains a solid Democratic vote on domestic and social issues.

36. I am in absolute agreement...
...it was not without sadness that I watched his speech tonight. I truly believe that the Democratic Party is the "big tent," including those who don't tow the party platform word-for-word.

His speech was classy, heart-felt and solid. I have no complaints with Joe, and never did. What a great finale for him. I applaud him and his supporters for their fight. Well done, all, well done.

30. I owe an apology to many of the people here and would like to
follow through. Earlier I started a very stupid thread celebrating the end of Joe's campaign. I disagree profoundly with Senator Lieberman on issues, but his long service to the Democratic party deserved more respect than I offered and I regret my thread which was self-deleted and locked at my request. Hope you guys can forgive me for losing sight of what we're all fighting for-the restoration of democracy in America...

38. Wow, this is encouraging....
Like a lot of people here, I haven't had a good thought about Joe Lieberman in many an age. He was at the bottom of my list of candidates from the start, simply because I disagree with him on so many issues, and tend to be turned off by the excessive insertion of 'god' into public discourse. However ... I'm pleasantly surprised and encouraged by this thread - to see people reacting to the end of Lieberman's run with grace and reconcilitation, rather than gloating - to point out that there are qualities to admire about the guy. This is the way we need to react as our candidates drop out, one by one - to wish them well and acknowledge their contributions, to heal the disappointment they and their supporters will feel. That way we might end up with everyone sincerely drawing together - not just casting a grudging ABB vote, but really keeping our enthusiasm up, all the way through November. All our candidates have unique talents that they can add to the big picture, and I'd like to see them stay in the picture in some capacity, even as they start to drop out of the race. In this thread and others, I've seen so many cross-pollinated messages of support tonight, I'm starting to think we're all going to come together just fine when the dust has settled. Thanks for a much-appreciated dose of hope!

Whilst I disagree with him on many issues, he is a decent man and, by any reasonable analysis of his voting record, a good - if moderate - Democrat. I'm sure he will continue to serve the party and the country well in the senate.
