DNC chairman wants grassroots Democratic Party

Howard Dean sees Orange County as a great place to build support.

By MARTIN WISCKOL
The Orange County Register
If Democrats start knocking on your door to pitch their beliefs, thank Howard Dean.

The Democratic National Committee chairman, in Santa Ana for a reception this evening, is trying to remake the party into a grassroots organization to better reach out to voters – including those in Republican strongholds like Orange County.

(snip)

“(The county) has a reputation of being conservative, but even conservatives don’t like corruption. So some people might consider us. ... We have a chance if we stand up and say what we believe.” His reference to ethical lapses by Republicans wasn’t the only time Dean kicked the GOP in the shins. “Only Democrats balance the budget,” said the former presidential candidate. “Apparently Republicans don’t do that any more.”

Dean is focusing the national party’s attention on reaching out directly to voters – something long left to the state parties. He said that when he took the DNC reins in February 2005, the organization had about 105 paid staffers – most of them in Washington, D.C. Now it has 375 people on its payroll, about 240 of whom work in each of the 50 states.

(snip)

Outlining differences in the major parties, Dean pointed to immigration. He said that if, as he expects, Democrats take control of Congress after this year’s elections, they will push for more border-security personnel to be hired. And they’ll push for a path to citizenship for those now in the country. What most Democrat officials do not back is Bush’s guest-worker plan, he said. “We don’t need to bring any more workers in,” he said.

1. the only way we'll ever see a grassroots Democratic Party . . .
is if we (the roots) can go out and take back the party . . .

because the corporate stooges (and their sponsors) who now control it aren't about to give it up without one helluva a fight . . .

the big test comes in 2008 . . . who will the stooges want to elect? . . . who will the roots want to elect? . . . (and will it matter? . . . or will BushCo still own the voting machines?) . . .

my guesses are Hillary and Al Gore, respectively . . . (and it's just a guess) . . .

although Gore needs to do more to separate himself from his former life as a stooge . . . and make us believe that stoogery is all behind him . . .
