Scandal Name needed for "hooker gate"
I am proposing we recycle Watergate, for historical reasons and also because it apparently was THE site of the festivities. But we still have to distinguish it from the Nixon Watergate scandal.

My suggestion: (drum roll)

the Watergate Poho scandal. (for poker hooker)
Works at several levels. Poker and ho conjure an obvious mental pic; ho is of course another term for hooker; and ho is an abbreviation for hotel.

 Kind of real and raw, but true to form.

8. I gotta admit - that's a good one. The Watergate Hokiepokie Scandal
By George (heh) I think he's got it. But the MSM would never use it. We might be stuck with Watergate II or Watergate, the Sequel. I suspect Watergate II could catch on. You heard it here first.

4. Wife Suggested 'Fornigate', Sir
As "fornicate" s a word in wide circulation among fundamentalist types, that would have an extra resonance with persons we want to be completyely disenchanted with the Republicans, and it would also remind others of the fundamentalist adherence of the enemy.

ForniGate for ForiCate type scandal.

10. I like it but MSM will never use it as they would think it is not
"serious" enough. My money is on "Watergate II", which may be ok because Watergate I actually did bring down a Republican President so if MSM does start using that it might signal that they are finally willing to toss the little smirking chimp overboard.

17. No they won't. The best we can hope for is a story in the WP Stye section
that talks about how it is being referred to in cyber space. But that would be something worth shooting for so I say let's push "fornigate" and see what happens.

20. It's accurate, not profane in any way, and
perfectly conveys the point of the scandal.

It's really really good.

But you may be right that the delicate sensibilities of the pure Corporate Media could not handle such a name. But it would be hypocritical given all the other seedy content they do not shy away from.

21. "Hookergate" probably best shot for use by MSM. I also like hoedown gate.
A hoedown is kind of a hillbilly party and of course it preserves the "hooker" connotation.

15. Watergate 2, The Sequel (Or Possibly "Tailgate")?
It will probably be known as "Hookergate", and since it involves The Watergate, I suppose putting "gate" on the end fits.

30. What's wrong with hookergate?
Edited on Tue May-09-06 10:47 AM by personman
simple, tells the story...

Or even fornigate(although sooner or later we may wish we'd saved it).

Is the "gate" suffix not watergatey enough?

Either one of those sound like a far better option to me. They give you some clue what the scandal is actually about, and they will probably cause some sort of emotional reaction from people who hear it the first time, a giggle or whatever. But "Watergate Poho?"...doesn't do anything for me.

32. "Hookergate does have a lot of "instant recognition" advantages and
in today's news environment it might even pass muster with the nanny news censors. The key question to answer is: Would the WP or NYT put it in a headline on page 1 above the fold? If the answer is no, we might be stuck with something milquetoast like "Watergate II"

33. Forget the Hookers....it's "CronyGate" but even that's too mild .
I'm thinking the hookers were the smallest part of this massive cronyism for defense contracts, spying and selling of defective software and equipment.

It's so huge their might not be one name that could cover it all. But many names to segment out the various operations that will hopefully be exposed.

:-(

This was exactly how Enron operated, too. Bechtel and DynCorp do it all over Europe and wherever they're in operations.
