I found a DU 'oldie but goody' on how to turn the red states blue
This is a great DU article from August 2001 talking about swinging red states our way. Guaranteed to pick you up, put a spring in your step and a smile on your face! :)

3. Great analysis

I think the red vs blue issue became big because conservatives were trying to retort the fact that Al Gore received more overall votes.

Their argument is that only the "densely populated" areas voted for Gore. Everybody else voted for Bush. The idea of this is absolute hogwash because PEOPLE vote for president not acreage.

The purple map puts things in perspective. Bush really didn't have such a great lead in the "red" states. Bush IS weak. His core demographic is disaffected by his overspending and illegal immigrant proposal. Democrats are energized and want change.

A Bush LOSS is pretty probable.

4. Outdated
Based on election 2000, and based on the decline popularity of G.W. Bush, it is reasonable to assume he will lose an overall percentage of his votes in 2004.

This statement from the article is based upon pre-9/11 numbers. Today, Bush's approval ratings would have to fall quite a bit for them to reach the number he had on election day 2000. If you "assume" that Bush will lose an overall percentage of his votes in 2004, you are basically "assuming" that the Democrats are going to win. I prefer to work for that goal rather than simple "assume" its going to happen.
