MSNBC: Dean 'superdelegates' holding firm
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4147124/

--Despite daunting prospects Tuesday, Dean loyalists see hope ahead
“My guess is the race is far from over and it won’t be wrapped up” in Tuesday’s round of contests, said Rep. Rush Holt, D-N.J. “I think as long as Howard Dean is going someplace and doing something constructive, I’m with him.”

--Resisting the pundits
Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California, who is leading the Dean effort among Democratic House members, said Dean supporters are resisting the idea that the race for the nomination should be considered effectively over when television pundits say it is over. “That’s not the way it’s going to work,” Lofgren said late Monday in a telephone interview.

--Need for 'critical scrutiny'
Lofgren warned against a precipitous rush to rally around the front-runner. “None of the other candidates has really received critical scrutiny,” she contended. “If we end up selecting by a coronation a candidate who can’t survive because of issues that later develop, that would be a disaster for the Democrats.”

Asked about the current mood of the House members supporting Dean, Lofgren said, “People are rolling up their sleeves for a long march.”

1. Good
We don't need fairweather friends right now, we need true supporters.

2. Will it matter....
If Dean gets little or no regular deleagates in any of the primaries today? And the latest polls I've seen in the places he is campaigning don't look promising, either.

3. Yes it will matter
with all the advertising pulled... he can't be expecting to be doing well today. He's got plans for future contests.

5. Yes, it will matter...
...they demonstrate loyalty, integrity. Not that those who endorse others don't, but I'm happier with real endorsements that last and stand the test of scrutiny than those that flow wherever the media points...

I'm in it too until the doctor throws in the towel. Otherwise, I'm not going anywhere.

8. Time for some Thomas Paine
"These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman."

I am so proud of these people. As much as it's about Dean, it's also not about Dean but about having a process that gives the Democratic Party the best candidate, whoever that will be. It also gives the candidates' ideas a free airing for months longer than they would be with the crappy media we currently have. It drives me crazy when the whores say that the public has only a vague sense of the candidates. If they spent any time at all on substance instead of just the horse race at most, the public would get some information.
