Dissident President
George W. Bush has the courage to speak out for freedom.

BY NATAN SHARANSKY
Monday, April 24, 2006 12:01 a.m. EDT

There are two distinct marks of a dissident. First, dissidents are fired by ideas and stay true to them no matter the consequences. Second, they generally believe that betraying those ideas would constitute the greatest of moral failures. Give up, they say to themselves, and evil will triumph. Stand firm, and they can give hope to others and help change the world.

2. What bullshit!
What part of freedom requires secret torture camps?

You kow what...I was just about to go into a lengthy rant about how that entire article is bullshit. Instead, I offer the opportunity for an lurking freeper garbage to give me ONE EXAMPLE of * making the lives of ordinary citizens better. He hasn't done a god damn thing to make life easier for american citizens or anyone else in the world for that matter.

A dissident is one who disagrees with the establishment position. Since George Bush is, by definition, The Establishment, what with being President and all, he cannot, by definition, be a dissident.

Morans.

4. That depends...

If he is bent on tearing down his own nation, perhaps he could be considered a dissident.

And, considering Bushs record, he certainly seems bent on destroying this nation. Our economy is a shell game, our military is over extended, and our international reputation is so bad that Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice should just give up their charade and start marching around in Ming the Merciless robes.

6. Eh. Nobody starts out trying to destroy the nation...
Even Bush didn't enter office saying, "Great! Now that I'm president I can finally destroy the country like I've always wanted." Instead, he went into office ready to help him and his colleagues get very, very rich, and the hell with the rest of it. Harming most of America was just a sad side effect of the main goal.

9. You know, you've got a point there.
In other words, Bush doesn't care enough to be a dissident. He's just greedy.

TO tell the truth, I don't really even think Bush is greedy. I think he's just a stooge for Cheney on the true Neocons. I think Bush has had a long indoctrination that has led him to believe that he is doing the right things, and that America loves him for it.

Seeing protestors must be terribly jarring to his psyche, because it doesn't match his mental constructions. So, his staff hides him away from most of it, and he probably tries to ignore the rest. But delusion and doubt MUST be creeping in, and he will eventually crack. (If he hasn't already.)

7. I think the Wall Street Journal
has opinion editors with serious issues, either that or they are bucking for a job at Comedy Central.

8. This guy's head hasn't seen the sun for quite some time, has it?
snip...

Today, we are in the midst of a great struggle between the forces of terror and the forces of freedom. The greatest weapon that the free world possesses in this struggle is the awesome power of its ideas.

The Bush Doctrine, based on a recognition of the dangers posed by non-democratic regimes and on committing the United States to support the advance of democracy, offers hope to many dissident voices struggling to bring democracy to their own countries. The democratic earthquake it has helped unleash, even with all the dangers its tremors entail, offers the promise of a more peaceful world.

"The Bush Doctrine...offers hope to many dissident voices..."

10. This reads more like someone who doesn't want to admit mistakes
and correct them. It reads like someone who is bullheaded and can't be reasoned with. This reads like someone who would rather see more lives lost and more money spent with more lies spread than actually make a decision that needs to be made.
