Who is the best choice for Kerry VP?

Clark has said he isn't interested in being VP.

Edwards has said he absolutely doesn't want to be VP.

Richardson says he isn't interested and made a commitment to New Mexico to serve his term.

Who's left? Bob Graham? He may help in Florida but a Kerry/Graham ticket will not be inspiring. It's dull and duller.

We need Edwards at the top of the ticket. He is the one who will just slam Bush in the debates. Kerry v Bush will be a rematch of Gore v Bush. Kerry will be much more knowledgeable just like Al Gore was. But remember how the media declared Bush the victor because Al Gore sighed too much or made minor mistatements.

I'm from Ohio, and I know so many people who didn't vote for Gore because they just didn't like him or trust him. People in Ohio, Republican and Democrat alike like John Edwards. People vote for president not vice-president. We need Edwards at the top of the ticket. He is Bill Clinton minus the sex scandels. Republicans are really scared of him.

too bad Edwards is not interested in the VPship. I think it would a step up for him and really help counterbalance Kerry with his young, good-looking, aw-shucks attitude.

Poeple vote for President not vice- president and people in the general election will vote for the candidate they like. Al Gore would have won in a landslide and Grey Davis would still be governor if voters voted for experience over likeablity.

How do you think John Edwards convinced so many juries? People on those juries (many of whom I'm sure were Southern Republicans who hate trial lawyers in general) liked and trusted him. We need Edwards to make our case to the American public. Edwards needs to be the one on the stage with George Bush.

Edwards is Bill Clinton minus Jennifer and Monica and Paula. He will demolish Bush in the general election!

And of course, Kerry doesn't have the nomination yet.

Right now the list would look something like:

Clark
Graham
Harold Ford
Russ Feingold
Diane Feinstein
Bill Richardson

Edwards would be more dynamic than Graham, but Graham is a very hard worker. Kerry-Graham would make Bush look like the incompetent child he has been.

If Clark or Edwards won then Kerry would be on the VP list.

If Howard Dean found some incredible way to win, I have no idea who would be on his list.

Gephardt contrasted next to Cheney would be very helpful to the Dems.

16. Edwards would blunt his own support for the presidency if he hinted that

he would accept the VP slot. He has got to keep his game face on in consideration for those who have worked so hard for him.

Edwards already knows that if he become vice president, his future chances of being president would greatly multiply.

17. Some possibilities....

First, keep in mind that ALL active candidates will say they are not interested in being VP. So, just because Edwards and Clark are saying "No" doesn't mean that they won't say "Yes" in June.

With that said, here are my choices for a Kerry VP:

1. John Edwards -- even though he can't win in the South, Kerry does need a Southerner to avoid a wholesale blood-letting down there. Plus, Edwards charm and upbeat style contrast nicely with Kerry's gravitas. Also, Edwards is young enough to wait it out till he can run for President again on his own should Kerry win.

2. Wes Clark -- a stellar military record and spotless persona, but not very good on the stump. He would have appeal in the South and to veterans.

3. Russ Feingold -- an outspoken reformer from a key battleground state, Feingold would devour the Corporate Dick in a debate. His youth also works for him, as he could wait out the potential eight years till he can run.

4. Max Cleland -- His Vietnam record versus Ceney's in a debate: Priceless. Plus, another Senator from the South could help in the region. Downside: how will Americans react to a disabled nominee?

5. Tom Harkin - A great speaker from a key Midwestern state, harkin also brings impressive labor credentials to the ticket. Plus, he's a great speaker. Downside: Kerry + Harkin = All-liberal ticket which may not appeal to swing voters.

Just my two cents.

21. My first choice has always been Clark, but

would love to have my Senator Feingold as VP also. Now that we have a Dem Gov, we wouldn't lose a Sen. Even though I am with Russ on all of the issues, and he has more guts than anyone in the Senate, he seems too polite to really get in Cheney's face in a debate. I may be wrong on this.

I saw Russ at Bob La Follette progressive days last fall and he is a treasure. Just a little mite of a guy. Kucinich was there too, though not at same time and It would be a toss up who is larger. And later came Jim Hightower. I don't think any of the three was much over 5 ft. I digress.

29. I would rule Cleland and Harkin out

Harkin was SOOO depressing during Dean's concession speech. Consider Gephardt of Vilsack instead for appealing to that region. I like Feingold but I'm not sure about his charisma---is he as good a speaker as Kerry or Edwards or Dean?

For Kerry's VP I'd say....

1. Edwards
2. Clark
3. Gephardt
4. Graham

If it was Edwards or Clark I'd say Gephardt or Graham, but with Kerry there is already enough expirience and gravitas on the ticket.

Although I like Clark more on issues, Edwards is probably the better choice. With five Southern Dem. Senate seats up, the party needs to make a play for the south, and I feel that Edwards has more southern appeal than Clark. Just a feeling I have.

I would like to see Bill Richardson chosen. I think it's time the Democrats made a serious appeal for the Hispanic vote. Don't count this possibility out - there is a huge, untapped electorate all over the west and midwest.

ps - all of these guys would run if asked.
