Albuquerque Journal Rips Kerry and Edwards hard today on
Filtered Funds. I don't have the story but it covered a half page. It said: Kerry and Edwards deny taking money from Special interest but do so in an indirect way.

It said Edwards got $82,000 directly from non-registered employees of Washington lobbying firms.

It says Among all senators, Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass. was one of the largest recipients of donations from individual lawyers and lobbyists. The paper took both of them to task.

employers are.

I am donating to one of those two candidates and must declare on the form that I am NOT a registered lobbyist and who my employer is. My donation says nothing about my employer's interest in the campaigns. Unless the paper has evidence that (a) employees were pressured by their bosses who were lobbyists or principals in a lobbying firm; (b) all the donations came from the same firm so that firm would have influence (in other words, how much influence is any $2000 contribution going to have?); and (c) Edwards' vote changed as a result of receiving this money, they have no convincing evidence of wrongdoing or even of questionable behavior.

I am not familiar enough with Kerry's situation to comment on it.

Democratic Presidential Candidate John Kerry today released the names of supporters who raised over $50,000 for his presidential campaign. The list has been posted for the public on his web-site at www.johnkerry.com

John Kerry said, “Throughout my career I have fought for reform in the campaign finance system and I believe strongly that voters should know who is funding campaigns. There is no better reason for transparency than the Bush Administration’s blatant reward of campaign contributors with tax breaks and special favors at every turn.”

“I hope that every Presidential candidate will show their commitment to transparency by releasing the same information from their campaigns.”

The Washington Post said, “Mr. Kerry's release of the names puts him in the forefront of meaningful disclosure

5. Where was this in the paper? How widely is it read?
Just wondering what the impact would be. If many voters in NM wake up on the election day to a newspaper with a promiment slam on Edwards and Kerry could affects the outcome..
