Fox's Brit Hume: Immigrants rally marchers "a repellent spectacle"
Edited on Tue Apr-11-06 03:28 PM by Bush_Eats_Beef
Immigrants rally in scores of U.S. cities for legal status

http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/04/11/america/web.0411.immig.php

Brit Hume, the news anchor on Fox News, described the marchers, particularly those carrying Mexican flags, as "a repellent spectacle."

But Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, warned that politicians who chose to alienate this group did so at their own peril.

"I understand clearly that the demographic changes are real in America and how we handle this issue in terms of fairness will be very important for the future of both parties," Graham said Monday. "Those who believe that they have no political vulnerability for the moment don't understand the future."

The organizers of the protests called Monday a National Day of Action for Immigrant Justice, and the focus was on pushing for legislation that would legalize the roughly 11 million illegal immigrants believed to be living in the United States. And in Atlanta, where the police estimated that 30,000 to 40,000 people participated in the rallies, some marchers invoked the tactics and slogans of the civil rights era. Fabian Rodriguez, a 38-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico, said he was tired of living in fear of being deported.

6. So, ya gonna vote for Sensenbrenner? Or Bush?
Sensenbrenner's House Republican bill, the "fences and felonies" bill, is totally punitive. Make illegal immigration a felony, make providing assistance to illegal immigrants a felony, build a 700 mile wall along the border. Bush's idea is to have a guest worker program.

I'm for legalizing those workers already here and for regulating the entry of those who wish to come in the future.

5. The funniest, most insane thing I saw yesterday was on
the Thinkprogress blog. They captured a FauxNewsChannel screen that proclaimed the rallies would be a good place to arrest illegal immigrants.

Sweet Hey_Sues, just imagine a handfull of blue clad policemen going into a crowd of 180,000, and trying to arrest an illegal immigrant. After a few minutes, there wouldn't even be any blue threads left. Well maybe blue threads and red spots.

9. Irish flags are flown on St. Patrick's Day
Is that a repellent spectacle as well (consider that many of the illegal immigrants on the East Coast are from Ireland)?

Brit Hume is a pig, just like Lou Dobbs!

10. I Got Your Repellant Spectacle
The ultimate definition of a "repellant spectacle" is that permanent scowl on Hume's face that passes for a mouth. Imagine the revolting acts that mouth has performed, for any right-wing politico who asked. Brit Hume is to responsible journalism as shit is to ice cream......

11. Serious question -
I'm from Australia where we have our own debates about immigration, but from the very little I've seen about the one in the States, it seems to me like there's only ever a focus on illegal immigration from Mexico, and never from Canada, or even across the seas? Is that because it's more prevalent? Or is it something else?

Thanks.
Josh

15. More American would like to move to Canada than vice versa...
Mexico is a country in which the top few, usually of European decent, rule and live well, but the masses (mostly indigenous and mixed) are very poor. The Mexicans have to keep those south of their country out since they are more prosperous.

14. I saw last night video of a right wing thug burning a Mexican flag.
Edited on Tue Apr-11-06 11:21 PM by Clarkie1
It was on one of the major networks, I forget which one.

I found it, suprisingly, more sickening than watching an American flag being burned. It was really revolting to watch someone do something with that kind of hate against a country and people that mean us no harm. When someone burns and American flag, it is revolting, but I think this was more so because it was an American engaging in the fanatical kind of behavior of those who hate America.
