But the Interior Ministry stressed in a statement that the election figures were still "provisional and not official". It said that for the Senate vote, almost 1,093,277 slips were considered void. It said 488,403 of these were blank, 565,052 spoiled and 39,822 disputed. In the House, 1,102,188 were void, the ministry said, with 448,002 blank, 611,158 spoiled and 43,028 disputed .
Given the narrowness of the vote, centre-right politicians demanded that the disputed ballots be re-examined while others called for a total recount .
The Interior Ministry stressed that it was up to the Supreme Court to declare the election outcome and that it could not be officially called until the court had done so .
