Lieberman refuses to rule out run as independent
If he loses primary to Ned Lamont...

Senator Meets With Tough Crowd
Lieberman Defends Iraq War Support, Party Loyalty
April 10, 2006
By LORETTA WALDMAN, Courant Staff Writer

WINDSOR -- Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman met with members of the Windsor Democratic Town Committee in the first of two stops Sunday in the state aimed at garnering support for his nomination at next month's state convention.

In addition to a primary challenge by Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont, Lieberman faces mounting criticism from within the party for his support of the Iraq war and President George W. Bush - including a 34-2 no-confidence vote against him in February by town committee members in Windsor.
....

Lieberman has not ruled out running as an independent should he not receive the nomination. Edward Anderson, a leasing manager from New Haven sporting a Howard Dean campaign button, was more concerned about that prospect than Iraq.

"It would destroy and cost us seats in the state House and Senate," he said.

8. Bullshit
It would change nothing. Lieberman would have to declare what caucus he'd want to be part of -- and he'd definitely pick the Democrats.

2. He thinks Lieberman cares about their State?
LOL! All He cares about is Joe! If Connecticut voters haven't manged to figure that out yet, they are in deep trouble.

4. Lieberman would do ANYTHING to keep the Democrats OUT of
power. His main concern is keeping BushCo and that type IN power.

6. Fuck Lieberman. Donate to Ned Lamont for US Senate
https://secure.nedlamont.com/page/contribute

Why am I running?

I am running for the US Senate because we deserve a Senator who will stand up for Connecticut and stand up for our progressive democratic values. Rather than spending hundreds of millions of dollars a day in Iraq, it is time for America to refocus on issues back home: fixing our healthcare system, upgrading our schools, and rebuilding our aging infrastructure. We will start winning in Iraq as the Iraqis take control of their own destiny, just as America has to start investing again in our own future.

I would have led the opposition to Judge Samuel Alito’s nomination to the Supreme Court, which may soon be considering the South Dakota law which outlaws a woman’s right to choose even in the case of rape and incest. I will push for energy conservation and efficiency standards as the best means to energy independence and a cleaner environment.
In other words, I am running to be your Democratic Senator.

Since I said I was willing to challenge Joe Lieberman in the Democratic primary, we've been overwhelmed with notes of encouragement and people signing up on NedLamont.com. I've been traveling around the state too, listening to voters, and finding an outpouring of intense frustration with many of Senator Lieberman's votes. Democrats, Independents and even many Republicans desperately want a Senator who will stand up to the President's wrong-headed fiscal, judicial and foreign policy choices.

But, it will take an unprecedented grassroots movement in Connecticut, and unprecedented support from Americans everywhere, to beat an entrenched and well-funded incumbent like Joe Lieberman.

Our campaign cannot succeed without your financial support!

- Ned

7. Whether he runs as a Democratic candidate, or an Independent,
I hope the people of Connecticut smash his sorry ass into the ground. Then he'll have plenty of time to snuggle up to the Republicans. But guess what? They won't give him the time of day then!

Joe needs to go!

11. If you want to advocate acts of violence against public officials
You should go over to Free Republic. I'm sure you'd feel right at home.

9. He can't be serious!
:wtf:

That would seriously put a democratic seat in the senate into the hands of the pubs. The pubs have several candidates that could easily win if the lieberman decides to split the democratic party.

What a moran!

:grr:

12. He isn't serious, and your analysis is wrong
First, he isn't serious about running as an independent. After saying he hasn't ruled anything out, he added that he's a lifelong Democrat and is seeking the Democratic nomination. That's hardly the talk of someone who's seriously mulling a third party run. I'm sure that if this story gains any traction, Lieberman will issue a clarification. Lieberman's a lifelong Democrat, and I'm sure he wants his party's nomination, even if he could get elected without it.

But your analysis is wrong. If Lieberman runs as an independent, he'd win. Perhaps not by as big a margin has he'd win by in a two candidate race, but he'd still win.

13. If he sinks enough to lose a primary to Lamont...
He would be in serious danger of losing the general election. He may pick up some Republican votes, but I don't see him getting tons of independents with the war being so unpopular. Then, if he loses the primary, maybe a Nancy Johnson jumps into the race?

10. If Dems = Jedi and Repubs = Sith,
then Lieberman = Dooku (even though he looks like Palpatine)

That is, a backstabbing despicable traitor
