3. What truth?
What truth is she speaking? I agree with Steve Gilliard. She is an embarrassment.

When will she get back to doing her job, and let us move on to more important issues?

Sorry, but I'm not buying your litmus test for "all good dems." McKinney keeps getting into all sorts of trouble and when she does, she tries to hype it for all its worth. A publicity hound is not what is needed in WDC.

56. Get over it!
During the 2000 presidential campaign, McKinney wrote that "Al Gore's Negro tolerance level has never been too high. I've never known him to have more than one black person around him at any given time."

Big deal. I'm sure she'd back him in 2008 if he decided to run...

6. Is this for real?
What in the blazes kind of topic is this.

"Speaks the truth"?

She's screaming racism and sexism in a case where none exists and she is entirely at fault.

This not only makes her a coward, but demeans all other instances where such factors actually come into play.

She is a disgrace, an embarrassment, and a liar.

And now that the media has McKinney Fever, she is a ball & chain on the leg of the Democratic Party.

They're going to entirely ignore DeLay and the bunch and focus on her illegal and violent outbursts against security officials who were just doing their job.

Resign now you devil woman, you!

13. what I love is how a lot of people here will, rightly, criticize
republicans for supporting their party members when they do illegal shit, but when Cynthia McKinney hits a police officer (WHICH IS A FUCKING CRIME) oh you have to support her in her time of need because clearly this smacks of racism and sexism. Amazing how Sheila Jackson Lee hasn't complained about racism in the Capitol, but whenever Cynthia McKinney gets so much as a parking ticket IT'S THE WORK OF THE KAPITOL KOPS KLAN!!!

16. Have you seen the surveillance video?
From McKinney's statement:

"This morning at approximately 8:57 am, I was going to a Budget Committee meeting due to start at 9:00 am. I was rushing to my meeting when a white police officer yelled to me. He approached me, bodyblocked me, physically touching me. I used my arm to get him off of me. I told him not to touch me several times. He asked for my ID and I showed it to him. He then let me go and I proceeded to my meeting and I assume that the Police Officer resumed his duties."

Without seeing the surveillance video, how can you know she "hit" him?

34. because when discussing racists, one needs to point out which race
the person is. I pointed out she's a black racist, if this was Dana Rohrabacher or Tom DeLay I'd say "white racist."

However, when I've talked about her being batshit insane, I've felt no need to bring her race up, because it has nothing to do with the fact she's crazy.

Frankly, I tent to believe police officers most of the time...but in this case am baffled by how a police officer hired to protect and recognize men and woman of the congress, as is his job, had failed to recognize his employer.

17. "i tend to believe police officers most of the time"
means you never do, but are trying to convince people that you're not being blindly partisan by making it sound as if this case is somehow different. If there was no surveilance video and the representative was Tom Tancredo, and everything else was the exact same as it is with McKinney would you be so liberal in who might be at fault? I doubt it.

I tend to believe police officers all the time, because quite frankly, they're in a shitheap of trouble if they lie about something like this.

He did not recognize her (maybe he should have but he did not). She just kept on walking, how was he going to get her to stop so he could identify her? He has a tough job protecting the congress people and making sure everybody that enters the building is not a threat.

She could have been a little more courteous. She could have been a little more gracious. She could have shown a little more class. She did none of any of these. Now other issues that should be getting publicity to help our cause is getting ignored.

If she would have only followed the rules and showed a little courtesy and consideration this would have not even gotten back page coverage.

Why did she not do the proper thing and wear the pin and make sure security saw it. If she was not going to wear the pin why did she not go up to the security people and identify herself and explain that she did not have her pin on.

As I stated she is discourteous, ungracious, and is really classless.

She has had far more issues with security than any other congress person including Sheila Jackson Lee.

I interned in college for a white male congressman and he was stopped on more than one occasion by Capitol police and asked to show either his member pin or ID badge. Racism has nothing to do with this. McKinney is a nut, and she has found a bunch of nuts on internet sites like this.

As a Georgia Dem, I'm glad I moved out of her district, even though I never voted for her. She wants nothing other than the spotlight to shine on her woeful countenance. She is always fanning the flames of her own flagging zeal, and this is a prime example of how she is no better than the most contemptable crony in the Bush White House --- Blame, Blame, Blame everyone else, rather than step up to the plate and admit she made a mistake, even a fleating lapse in judgement. SHE is the racist here. She needs to be removed from office ASAP, and I pray I see the day she is frog marched out of the House Chamber in shackles.

20. the other incidents involved the clinton administration
In 1993, Capitol Police posted a photo of McKinney on an office wall so officers could remember who she was after she complained. Then in 1995, she complained again about being stopped.

In 1996 and 1998, she complained that White House security officials did not give her the same treatment as other members of Congress, at one time mistaking her 23-year-old white aide for her. McKinney is black.

29. It's their job.
According to McKinney's statement, "Capitol Hill Police are given face recognition instructions as a part of their official training. Capitol Hill Police are required to recognize, greet, and distinguish Members of Congress as a part of their official role and responsibilities."

Instantly recognizing 435 people is not that difficult. School principals are able to do it in a matter of days, and remember, there are only 14 black congresswomen. I find it unusual if you don't recognize students from your own class.

IF she had said something like "I am on Capitol Hill's radar because I have been vocal about bushit regarding 911 etc and I have been targeted" --

I would have believed it (IF she was in fact targeted I think that is more likely the reason)

I haven't seen the tape, don't know who did what, but I thought it was unwise that she so quickly announced that her race was the issue.

I think she should have thought things through before she reacted...but most of all I just hope the whole incident goes away so that the media will stick to bushit's leaking instead of this very nothing story.

48. The Screwing of Cynthia McKinney
"Have you heard about Cynthia McKinney, former U.S. Congresswoman?

"According to those quoted on National Public Radio, McKinney’s “a loose cannon” (media expert) who “the people of Atlanta are embarrassed and disgusted” (politician) by, and she is also “loony” and “dangerous” (senator from her own party).

"Yow! And why is McKinney dangerous/loony/disgusting? According to NPR, “McKinney implied that the Administration knew in advance about September 11 and deliberately held back the information.”

"The New York Times’ Lynette Clemetson revealed her comments went even further over the edge: “Ms. McKinney suggest that President Bush might have known about the September 11 attacks but did nothing so his supporters could make money in a war.”

T"hat’s loony, all right. As an editor of the highly respected Atlanta Journal Constitution told NPR, McKinney’s “practically accused the President of murder!”

"Problem is, McKinney never said it.
(snip)
"Here’s the Congresswoman’s statement from the record:

“George Bush had no prior knowledge of the plan to attack the World Trade Center on September 11.”

"Oh."

52. Here! Here!....support for Cynthia...When she apologized they WENT AFTER
Her AGAIN! And, saddest of all it was her fellow Dems and Black Caucus who got after her to APOLOGIZE...yet when she did ..."THEY" did "THIS" to her....

55. Well I guess I'm not a good Dem
Because what Mc.Kinney did was wrong. I'm glad she apologized, but it took her three days, and using the race card was inexcusable. Cynthia, you were wrong, admit it and move on.

60. YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW
what she did or didn't do and you're ready to condemn her.

I don't understand you people.

You're ready to take the word of a COP over one of the best friends you have in the Congress.

Amazing!

64. Oh dear
I always marvel at DU.

Do we really want such a grand standing self-promoting candidate?
