Dean of Sealed Records Gets No Respect For Kerry"Special Interest" Ploy
Edited on Mon Feb-02-04 06:30 PM by WiseMen
(Modified for moderators. Note Media, especially Fox is Repeating Dean Charges 24/7 without looking at their validity -- They love quoting Dean as proof of Kerry's "special interest" problem.)

The Dean of Sealed Records, of “We didn't want anything embarrassing appearing in the papers” fame, is now digging through Kerry’s Open Records to find any frivolous issue he can twist into an attack.

Howard Fineman on NBC last week muttered about the flood of speculative attacks filling his mail box from the Dean camp.

As far as I can figure, Deans strategy is to get some trivial issue into the press, then gasp to the next journalist he sees “I’m Shocked, Shocked, John Kerry needs to appologiize.”

What is shocking is that the media is energetically magnifying Dean's charges against Kerry without addressing whether they have a basis or not. They love it.

Take the issue of Kerry’s “special interests” donations. Dean knows very well that if you don’t take any PAC money (and Kerry has not throughout his career) there is no choice but to take vastly more individual contributions from people regardless of what industries they work in. That is exactly what the Dean campaign is doing. Stretch this process across 20 years and you are bound to have lots of contributors in any business no matter how you slice it. But Dean is “Shocked! Shocked!”

Now some of Dr. Dean’s young supporters may think what Dean is doing is cute, but among professionals, Dean is truly seen as doing a great disservice to the Party. If by some turn of events Dean was to get the nomination he is going to have a hard time getting any respect.

1. Exactly
Personally I'm sick of Dean's "holier than thou" attitude. He's just as much of an insider as the rest of em. He even took speaker pay for "special interests".......give me a break. Now he admits he will attack the front runners as they attacked him. Oh I get it!! He's not going to follow his own advice. Too funny.

3. enough with the young supporters thing
vs. the professionals. I am a "professional" whatever that means. I'm also young at heart. I'm also for Dean. Mostly I'm for a Democratic Party that walks the talk - and has some spine. Dean brought it to the table.

As far as I'm concerned Kerry folks were perfectly happy dishing out against Dean, and aren't doing such a swell job dealing with some legitimate questions about their candidate now that the shoe is on the other foot (so to speak).

Of course there's trivial stuff coming from all directions - but all of the candidates are having to deal with that.

But it's different for the frontrunner, as you all can now see.

4. You're leaving out one major point
Kerry's team hasn't been whining about the attacks like Dean has.

6. Remember it is Dean who went to Terry Mac For Help. Now he ignores his

own advice and promotes baseless rumors with great enthusiam.

5. Kerry's people have been going through
Dean's records for over 6 months. Give me a break! If you can't take it don't dish it out.

12. Please, you know that anything questionable has been sealed.

It is well documented that Dean's attorneys did that before he left office.

7. I take offense at the last paragraph
If that's going to be the Democratic Party's attitude to the youth vote, then we are doomed in the long run.

No one I know believes that Dean doesn't understand how the
fundraising numbers are tabulated.

But he is taking advantage of the inexperience of many of his
supporters. Most experiences guys I know believe Dean is being
deliberately "disingenuous."

8. Haven't the posters here at DU taught you anything?
What is perceived is believed to be true!

And as the frontrunner's supporters have so frequently pointed out:

:nopity: Sux, don't it?

13. Dr. Dean is doing a great service for the party.
If Sen. Kerry is an ethical cripple, then we should know that sooner rather than later, so that we can nominate someone else.

14. Is that why ADA and LCV gives Kerry highest marks for consistenscy

on progressive issues including campaign financing. Wellstone is the only notable senator with higher scores than Kerry.

15. I am a professional
And I like what Dean is doing. There goes one premise. Unless the 'professionals' you are talking about practice in the inner circles of Washington, then I expect you are correct.

But if Dean is irritating those 'professionals' my money has been well spent.

So either way, I am happy. Perhaps I will send Howard some more.
