Kucinich is the only candidate who will make Roe v. Wade a litmus test
Should the other candidates follow Kucinich's approach and guarantee that all nominees will be pro-choice?

2. Honestly, Kucinich might not be the best candidate to argue this...
I've never made a "flip-flop" charge, but he WAS anti-choice until recently. Advocating pro-choice is great, but he might not be the best standard-bearer...

8. incorrect...misinformation
Kucinich stopped voting on choice related issues OVER two years ago. Well before he was DRAFTED into the race. So the campaign and his personal decision do not relate. Taking many months and possibly a year to come to a decision on an extremely important issue is NOT a flip flop. And when you take into account the integrity of Dennis Kucinich there is no reason to doubt his seriousness of conviction on this issue.

11. I SAID I wasn't accusing him of anything. Besides, it's still a fact:
Kucinich used to be anti-choice, whether one year or two years before he ran for President.

I must have missed him being drafted. How, exactly, did that happen?

12. After his "prayer for America"
He was flooded with requests to consider running for president.

3. Is this to beef up his pro chioce credits since he was
anti chioce (and voted that way) until he ran for Pres?

on abortion-related legislation two years before he declared his candidacy.

10. Your facts aren't correct
Please look up above, at the response to this issue. It's important to understand what the truth is about this.

18. According to what I have found
his last anti-choice vote was on 5/6/2001 on an amendment to HR 1646. A year and nine months before he announced his candidacy, then.

5. As much as I hate to be the one to say this-
He isn't the only one to announce that. John Kerry said the same thing at the Women's Issues forum a month or two ago. I was stunned because Kucinich never called him on it neven though he'd made that vow previously.

15. Kerry first made the pledge about a year ago.
I believe it was before DK entered the race. DK did make the pledge shortly after entering the race, and I believe he and JK are the only ones who have said this.

6. it's the message, not the messenger...
the fact that he saw the light is actually more of an endorsement, because it's not the pro-choice people we need to reach, but the pro-life people that could use a good example of someone who came from their position to ours...

16. I actually have more respect for him for making the switch
It shows that he is a man of reason, not of bribery. He took time to think about it.

I think in an ideal country, I would also be pro-life. If only "pro-life" actually meant that all life is sacred...

9. Kerry does
He says it's been decided that abortion is a constitutional right and is only going to appoint judges who will uphold the law as its been decided.

13. and neither one's appointees will be allowed to vote on abortion cases
This is stupid pandering at its worst. It gives the Senate a huge excuse to refuse to confirm any and all appointees by either person and even if they somehow do get confirmed they would be barred from casting votes on abortion related issues. Judges aren't supposed to have made up their minds before the case gets to them.

17. thats not how I remember the first debate
Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 10:09 AM by tinanator
unless Kerry said such earlier, the first debate had nothin but cowards and Kucinich who pledged alone for a litmus. Anyway, the way Kerry talks without saying anything, how can you trust a legible word?
