Anyone Else Catch Nancy Pelosi on Lehrer Last Nite?
Edited on Fri Mar-31-06 09:05 AM by leftyladyfrommo
She was impressive, I thought.

It almost sounds like the Democrats are actually coming up with a platform.

I just wish they would add "environment" into the platform. That always seems to get left out and I think it would add a great appeal to lots of Independents.

1. I'm hoping our elder statesman, Gore....
...will be vigilant in making certain that the environment doesn't get short shrift.

but I think the main reason we really don't have to worry about it getting short shrift is that nothing will stop people from speaking out on it. Two of the strongest voices on this have been our last two Presidential candidates.

Gore has spoken more prominently on Global warming for longer than I can remember - at least back into the 80s. His book was read by many many people and made people aware of the problem. He is still speaking and will continue to do so. While this is Gore's main environmental issue, it is not his only one.

Kerry has been an environmentalist since his youth, due to the influence of his mom. He was involved in protests to clean up poluted waters in the 70s as a private citizen. As Lt Governor, he was instrumental in getting NE governors (and their Canadian counterparts) to use adaptations of the techniques used with success in Europe to deal with acid rain - these became part of the basis of the Clean Air act. In his Senate career, he has regularly been named the top environmentalist. (He has supported all the efforts on global warming - although he was not as involved as Gore, he gained more personally from these efforts - his relationship with Teresa started when they met as delegates at the Rio conference. :) )

Neither of these two people will stop talking about the environment. Also, has there been a Democratic platform that didn't include the environment?
