Dean has raised 3 million in the past two weeks. How about the others?
Sure doesn't sound like it's much of a struggle to raise funds for Dean.

From Roy Neel
After Governor Dean asked me to join the campaign I arrived in Burlington to the greatest group of individuals I have ever seen assembled on a single campaign staff. This is a great team and despite hitting a bump in the road recently we are united and determined to nominate Howard Dean and beat George W Bush.

The first step I took to make that happen was to get a handle on our budget and our resources. Because of you - including the 3,000 first time donors - we have raised roughly $3 million dollars in the last two weeks. Your continued support and a firm grip on our spending have enabled us to make strategic determinations on how we will spend our resources.

I am pleased to announce after a brief delay that we will pay our staff immediately and honor our commitment to make our payroll moving forward in the campaign. We have also decided to use our resources to build strong organizations in Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine and Washington in addition to an aggressive advertising campaign in Wisconsin.

I wanted you to be the first to hear the good news. Please keep sending your comments and suggestions. Together we will nominate Howard Dean in July and together we will win back the White House in November.

But since you insist....

Dean can raise all the money he wants to. But unless he's going to slip a $10 bill into the pocket of every potential voter, he's not going to get enough votes to win any states.

Any of that money coming from those who are interested in keeping Dean in the race to fracture the Dem party?

You know, like Andrew Sullivan?

You can't buy that kind of press.

I do wonder how much he spent making harassing calls Dean supporters in the weeks leading up into Iowa and NH, though.

31. Actually, he's losing to bush by 5%, hodling bush under 50%
Edited on Mon Feb-02-04 05:53 PM by nu_duer
Not exactly what I'd characterize as unelectable. Pretty damned remarkable, considering the continuing media hatchet job.

--------
http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x9998.xml

In possible 2004 presidential matchups, Kerry beats Bush 51 – 43 percent, compared to a 49 – 45 percent Bush lead January 26. Bush beats all other Democrats:

49 - 44 percent over Dean, down from 54 – 38 percent January 26;
47 – 45 percent over Edwards, down from 50 – 42 percent;
48 – 45 percent over Clark, down from 51 – 41 percent;
49 – 44 percent over Lieberman, down from 53 – 39 percent.
---------

I really get a kick out of those who can't stand to see him/us continue. One might wonder if they had something against the system of democracy. Either way, we're crashing the coronation, like it or not. Let's hear from all the voters.

:D

on edit: added poll info.

19. As if television advertising isn't a form of buying votes?
Edited on Mon Feb-02-04 05:34 PM by Straight Shooter
Some other campaigns and the media are dissing Dean for his lack of television ads to sway the Big 7 voters. It takes money to produce and pay for television ads. Marketing, marketing, marketing.

Just ask Rove whether money buys votes or not, with georgie amassing a $200 million campaign war chest. $10 in the pocket or $10 spent influencing the voter, the result is often the same.

Edited georgie's war chest $.

12. i honestly dont know Clark's numbers
i know he raised over 2 in the 2 weeks running up to NH... i dont know what he's raised in the last week.

i know he should have gotten the matching funds check for the December contributions - so that's probably another $1m or somesuch...

i dont think he'll have to mortgage his house anytime soon...

15. 200+ thousand dollars/day...not too bad
however, it is the NON internet funds coming in to Kerry that seem to be tipping the scales in his favor. Dean sticking in this thing at least until Super Tuesday is really good for the party if he stops being such a little attack dog trying to tear at the jugular of the Democratic party.

I, for one, hope that all the candidates stay in for as long as they can. These debates and the primary process is getting our message out to all of America and changing many Republican's minds. They are starting to come over to vote for a Democrat. In NH 15% did not vote for Bush, and a majority of them wrote in one of our Democratic candidates on the Republican ballot.

I also do not want a small percentage of the Democrats, in these early States, to decide who becomes our Nominee! Let's take it all the way to the convention and all Democrats will have a voice in who wins!
