11th C.D. discussion thread at DemocraticWarrior. Ouch.
McNerney - Filson - McCloskey

I am *not* posting this to market the site, but to get people into the discussion. This is what's going on in The Democratic Party and some people are fed up!

11. I volunteered and did precinct walking for McNerney in 04'.

Since then, I have moved 15 minutes outside of the district, but I plan on working hard for whoever wins the primary this time around. I honestly don't know what to think. I don't know why some think Filson would be a stronger candidate, and I like McNerney. I'm just going watch and see what happens, then get to work over the summer and in the fall.

Edit: This McCloskey actually sounds like a decent fellow...I suppose if he wins the Republican primary I will have to re-evaluate my priorities. I know nothing about Filson. I would probably sit out a McCloskey/Filson race. I would definitely not sit out any race involving Pombo. If McNerney wins the primary, I would work harder, especially if he was facing Pombo.

Again, I'm not in this district anymore, but it's the closest district to me that is competitive.

12. Thanks. BTW, did you know that Clark has endorsed Filson?!?! It
has created some division amongst the Clark supporters!!

The reason for the debate on McCloskey is he is a true Moderate Republican; a Progressive Conservative.

"I would probably sit out a McCloskey/Filson race."
If it comes down to McCloskey/Filson winning their Primaries then DW WILL endorse McCloskey.

13. Yes, I know Clark endorsed Filson.
I don't expect to agree with anyone on everything, Clark included. So I can live with that and still be a strong Clark supporter. Clark is supporting many good, strong Democratic candidates.

McCloskey seems to be a man of great integrity who would certainly be an improvement over Pombo. Have you seen this?

For Immediate Release March 24, 2006
Congressman Pete McCloskey and his wife, Helen, both 4th generation Californians, will march in a demonstration organized by Latino and religious groups opposed to H.R. 4437 tomorrow morning at 9:00 am at Pacific and Yokut Streets in Stockton.

The McCloskeys will join in asking the United States Senate to reject the bill passed by the House to declare 11 million undocumented immigrant workers as felons, and penalize any humanitarian group, including churches, who have contact with them.

McCloskey released the letter he has sent today to Republican SenatorArlen Specter, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, asking that the Senate reject the House bill.

McCloskey is a candidate for the US Congress in the llth Congressional district running against incumbent Richard Pombo, apparently the only Member of Congress in the San Joaquin valley to support the bill.

15. Well I can tell you this so far. I talked to the Admin at DW

and he's still not sure how he's going to handle this. Whether to endorse McCloskey in the primaries - especially for the purposes of taking out Pombo - and sacrificing support for maybe a good Democrat is a concern. However, the endorsement in the G.E. might still go to McCloskey.

I think he'll make a decision in the next couple of days.

16. McClosky will still caucus with the Republicans
I too remember McClosky from the 70s and he is a decent, moderate Republican but I would NEVER support him over either Democratic candidate. I heard McClosky interviewed when he entered the race and he supports most Republican policies. All of you considering not supporting the Democrat, please look closely at McClosky positions.

This is the race I'm going to work on after the primary. I want Pombo out and I think the Dems have a decent chance to take this seat. We'll see.
