1. Attended a lecture given by Jack Rakove last night --
he that won the Pulitzer in 1997 for his monograph, "Original Meanings: Politics and Ideas in the Making of the Constitution."

He discussed the Constitutional importance of this case; it is very chilling to think that this administration really believes they have such unitary authority.

I hope SCOTUS doesn't punt on this one.

they are peppering the attorney for the Guantanamo detainee with many, many questions. But you really can't assume anything, one way or the other, from those questions.

This is one of the most important cases before them, IMHO. I agree with you, and hope they don't 'punt' on this one.....

ps. to include that the attorney for the Guantanamo detainee is extremely well-prepared, and well-spoken. His answers are precise, complete (as much as they let him finish before asking another question, and time allows)

3. Just voice, right?
They don't allow cameras in the Supreme Court ever.

4. true, just voice, but as they are playing the voice,
they are texting the arguments over the screen. Also playing on the screen are many, many videos of Guantanamo and the prisoners. Every half hour or so, CourtTV is breaking in for brief statements by their hosts. All of the hosts and commentators are saying just how important this case is, and how much Shrub and his cronies have overstepped their authority. Very interesting indeed....
