I support Michael Schiavo.
Michael Schiavo has come out with a new book http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0525949461/104-0190990-4186372 that he is peddling with interviews on various cable news stations, at the same time announcing the PAC he has established to take down the politicians who stuck their noses in business that was not their own.

But it's more than that. Frist diagnosed Terri from the Senate floor. Delay eviscerated Michael Schiavo on the House floor, the epitome of hypocrisy since he had pulled the plug on his own father. The only time Bush got off his ass while on vacation was to fly to D.C. to sign the immorally invasive bill to move the Schiavo case to the federal courts. And Jeb, the Florida dough-boy, enacted legislation to reinsert the feeding tube.

On top of that, the tag-team gaggle of talking heads, notably Hannity and Limbaugh, trashed Michael Schiavo, day after day, accusing him of all sorts of outrageously vile crimes.

All the while, Michael Schiavo was grace under pressure, staying away from microphones for the most part, handling his life and that of Terri's with dignity.

Michael's PAC, called TerriPAC at http://www.terripac.com/, is dedicated to ousting the politicians who opportunistically used his family's tragedy to further their own careers.

I plan to support Mr. Schiavo's efforts. I hope some of you do too.

2. I absolutely support Mr. Schiavo
it is horrendous what he had to go through because sactimonious, hypocritical pieces of conservative garbage decided to use Ms. Schiavo as a political football

10. Neocons are not conservative.
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 02:00 AM by bluesbassman
I agree with all of your observations about the self serving scum that violated the Schiavo's right to privacy and dignity. What I'd like to point out though is that by their very actions the pols and religious leaders who trampled the Shiavo's rights cannot be called conservative. A true conservative would never consider using the power of government to interfere in a truly personal, family decision. These people who called for subverting Michael Schiavo's desire to allow his wife to die with dignity were not doing so in keeping with conservative ideals, rather they were attempting to use this as another galvanizing issue in their radical agenda to remake the U.S. in their warped view. These people need to be referred to by what they really are; neocons.

As a life long Liberal, IMHO true conservatism has been lost. Yes, there are still people who believe in the status quo and gradual change, but the times we live in require more accelerated adaptation. So I ask, who is more suited to that task, Liberals, who can appreciate differing viewpoints, or conservatives who view the world through the tinted lenses of "tradition" and "the norm"? As for the neocons, I paraphrase one of neoconservatism's chief architects, Francis Fukuyama, in that "neoconservatism will wind up on history's trash heap of bad ideas".

Edited to include Francis Fukuyama's name.

8. Did you see them on AC 360 tonight?
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 12:57 AM by TwoSparkles
They totally dismissed the autopsy report which clearly showed that half of Terry's brain
was missing. They're still insisting that she was "interacting with us."

I do understand their pain. However, these people have become reckless parodies who are being
destructive and vindictive. They are still trying to perpetuate the notion that Michael was an abuser and that he tried to murder her the night she had her initial collapse.

I remember these parents saying that the autopsy would show that Terry had broken bones--because of abuse from Michael. They throw out these heinous allegations and there was no broken bones found from the coroner in the autopsy report. It was reported that he looked for signs of abuse too--because of what the parents had suggested.

These people lied before, and they continue the same lies a year later.

Their pain is not from losing a daughter. We're not looking at sadness and pain--we are looking at people who are being evil and mean spirited.

9. I think they've been driven to madness
Not only by the tragedy of their daughter, but by the crass hordes of opportunists and hucksters - ie. Republicans and pseudo-Christians - who exploited them and haven't yet finished exploiting their daughter.

5. I think we should make sure congressional candidates
show video of DeLay and Frist during that Schiavo travesty. . .because reminding the voters of their outrageous attack on the sanctity of marriage will most definitely drive more voters away from the Repukes.

6. there is much we can use for campaign ads
and, you're right, about 80% of Americans were against this gross invasion of privacy.

I hope the Dems have the good sense to throw it back in their faces.

7. Thank you for this post...Michael Schiavo is a hero...

I am elated to see others supporting Michael Schiavo.

He respected his wife's wishes and honored her by helping her to die with dignity--the way she wished. Every wife should have a man that devoted and strong. He could have walked away from Terry, but he didn't.

It's apparent to anyone who knows the truth, that Michael loved Terry. He became a nurse to better care for her. He tried many therapies--for years. He made a heartbreaking decision--one with which her parents did not agree.

I understand her parents' pain. What an awful tragedy. However, one year after her death--they are still insinuating that Michael wanted to pull the plug and "kill" Terry because he was tired of caring for her. They are still suggesting that her initial collapse was suspicious and that Michael may have tried to kill her. Tonight, on AC 360--they dismissed the autopsy report which showed that half of Terry's brain was gone. They're disputing facts. They're denying medical certainties.

There's plenty of evidence which backs up that Terry had an eating disorder. The coroner said her electrolytes were completely out of wack and consistent with a bulimics' chemistry. Michael--and other friends of hers--said they witnessed bulimic behaviors. It's very sad to say--but the roots of bulimia are often planted in controlling and dysfunctional families where there is a great deal of denial. These parents---who don't want to face that their daughter collapsed due to a condition in which they may have played a part--have decided to traipse around the country and call Michael Schiavo a murderer. Gee. If I had to live with parents like this, I'd probably develop some kind of a disorder too.

Michael Schiavo did the right thing. He didn't bend when it came to our pandering politicians, either. He stood up to them and held his ground. Frist looks like an idiot now--for saying that Terry was not brain dead because her eyes were following the balloon. Turns out, she was blind and Frist was completely wrong. DeLay's remarks were slanderous and I hope Michael sues him.

It was pretty disgusting to see our politicians willing to destroy a man---so they could kow tow to the most radical, dark corner of their party. They claim to be "Christians" yet they will eviscerate a man just to score a few political points.

I hope Michael makes a million+ from his book. He deserves good things after the hell he endured.

There were so many people--writhing in anger and protesting--because Terry was being "starved to death" and "murdered." Nearly every day in this country a feeding tube is pulled and a family must make the painful decision to let a loved one go. Where are all of the protesters and politicians in those cases? The protesters and politicians never cared about this issue or about life. They cared about their own sick, selfish interests.

Michael Schiavo was the only one in this situation who wasn't obsessed with himself.

Sorry to ramble, but I really feel strongly about this issue. I was amazed by Michael's courage and by the hell these people were willing to put him through.
