Republicans are pretending to be concerned about immigration...
When actually, they are mostly concerned about the election in November. They understand that this is one issue where they are very vulnerable. Tancredo of Colorado has been one of the main pushers of strict immigration policies, and many of his supporters have mentioned him as a presidential candidate. Of course, he would have a snowball's chance but many Repubs do support his positions.

That is what the polls tell the Congressional candidates. Immigration issue is a big problem. If you do nothing, you stand a lose a lot of Republican support. That is what this latest facade is all about.
