Brattleboro town meeting members on Saturday approved a resolution asking U.S. lawmakers to investigate whether President George W. Bush should be impeached and removed from office.
With the vote, Brattleboro became the sixth Vermont community to seek Bush's impeachment. Five other towns approved similar non-binding resolutions during town meetings earlier this month, including Brookfield, Dummerston, Marlboro, Newfane and Putney.
The non-binding resolution was approved 73-13 after more than an hour of debate, said Brattleboro town meeting member Marshall Wheelock, who represents District 2.
The measure was introduced by Dora Bouboulis, a District 3 member, under the heading of "other business" toward the end of the meeting at the Brattleboro Union High School gymnasium. The version approved at the end of the debate amended and condensed Bouboulis' original proposal, which also included references to indictments.
