What I'd love to see......Alot more African American Police
Living in Portland OR we have our share of rascist police officers supposedly. I haven't had this experience and in fact of the numerous officers I know I am impressed with their atitudes.

On the other, living in N Portland (predominatly Black) I have heard many stories of racial profiling.

I sympathize. But one thing really irks me about the whole matter. I know of only two to perhaps three black officers in my area and there are probably very few in the entire city. Two of our last three police captains have been black, Charles Moose was one, who later moved on to become Captain of the D.C. police during the whole car sniper thing.

So getting into and rising through the ranks of the police, atleast in Portland, is not necessarily the issue. The issue is encouraging African Americans to let go of the "fear the police" solidarity issue and go ahead and go get criminal science degrees and then become police officers.

Ok maybe I'm off on this but I hear alot of complaining about the police and I want to see some effective change. And this is possable and would be effective.
