The worm has turned. Tweety & Imus discuss how BushCo lied
Atrios: Eschaton

It's the top post right now. I don't have a permalink.

MSNBC's Chris Matthews: "Well I am just going to stick to this point that the president led us in there with the background music of American culture. Everybody was led to believe that we were getting payback, we were avenging what happened on 9/11 and that we are going to get them. Vice President Cheney said we are going to attack terrorism at its base. Over and over the language was, this is where it came from, in fact most recently the President suggested that it was always the hot pursuit, like a new York police chase, we chased them back into their country. We pursued the terrorists back to Iraq and it's all nonsense. The reason there are terrorists in Iraq today like Zarqawi is we created the opening by blowing the country apart. From the beginning it's been not true. Now you can't prove motive and you can't prove somebody lies, but from the beginning everything about how they've got WMD's, they are a threat to us, they are going to bomb us with a nuclear weapon, this country is going to be an easy liberate, it's going to be a cake walk. As Cheney said as recently as ten months ago the insurgents are in their last throws. Everything that is said is not true. And right to the end here, here we are now and it's not a civil war and when Allawi the prime Minster is saying it is a civil war and here is the president quoting his own people that it's not a civil war. I mean the denial has been continuous. So you really can't count on the administration to tell you what is going on. That is just the fact. You've got to check it out. By the way, the president said this week that he wants the whole truth about what is going on in Iraq, the whole truth and that the media isn't telling the whole story. I'll tell you what we are not telling. We are not showing pictures of the twenty five hundred bodies coming back because they won't let us show the pictures. They don't want the whole truth out and that's the fact."

11. Right. Who actually likes him?
But he still said all that plus a whole lot more. I haven't heard many other hosts of TV shows say half as much so directly about how BushCo operates in lies, etc.

I still can't get past the fact that he helped to perpetuate this BS. Now, IMO, he's running for cover.
Peace.

6. Wow! Tweety's on a roll.
Have we reached the tipping point, when some of the scales fall from his eyes? He's not falling for the current disinformation campaign aimed at stripping the last shreds of truth from coverage of Bush's war.

8. That may drive the point home to a few Repug die hards
We know how much they adore Tweety. Even if Tweety is singing a different tune 5 minutes later, what he said will still have impact. When the same people who've been telling everyone how great Bush is start changing their tune, it will help.

And face it, credibility has nothing to do with it. Bush really doesn't have any credibility, either, and they still believe him.

I think statements like this one will help people open their eyes.

10. Tweety is now on record..especially about the pictures....
Edited on Fri Mar-24-06 04:53 PM by MadMaddie
I don't think he can backtrack on these statements...

I think what pushed him over the edges was when "* said that the troop withdrawal would be conducted by another President...."

I think that the * cabal made a mistake trying to blame the media when it was the cabal handcuffing the journalist.....

Especially about the body bags....(The body bags were huge in Vietnam)

Tweety was one of the leading propagandist in this debacle....he will go down in history as aiding the cabal in pulling the wool over susceptible and frightened Americans...

I will never forgive or forget these actions that he participated in....

19. I think you make such good points. We all have long known
that if the media had been brave and just went ahead and showed the damned pictures and a few photos of the fallout in Iraq (and at home) of this heinous war, the American people would have turned against the war at a much faster rate. Americans like to think of war in terms of "surgical strikes". Everything all clean and careful and precise. We all know that's bs. The blood and death in just a few photos brings in the reality that war is unjust and just plain hell.

21. Thanks for all of the acknowledgements...
To add on to what you have mentioned...

If the American stations were like the BBC....quite graphic (My dad was Air Force and we lived in England during the IRA bombings and I remember as a child being impacted by the footage)we would have most of our troops home....

I wish Ted Turner would start up another News organization similar to the BBC....

28. I went to Rome last month, and the int'l CNN is so different
It is so thorough. Heck, I would go so far as to say CNN international seemed scholarly compared to the CNN here. I agree that BBC is the best. We watch it on PBS here whenever it's on. How is it possible that journalism is so weak in this country?

You know, the last time that journalism was this bad in this country was 100 years ago, and it coincided with the last time that the Robber Barons du jour were controlling everything; only it was the Rockefellers and Vanderbilts that time. This crap comes back around apparently, and all the libs have to wake up and kill it dead.

13. Sometimes, gold is gold; other times, it's fool's gold.
That is, talking heads know * is unpopular; let's distance ourselves from him, disown him, and come midterms, we will have retained seats because people know we're on their side.

15. Tweety's ratings must have fallen, and he found out he can't
make the fundies happy, so he's on our side now!

I HATE these damn idiots who change their tune depending on their ratings! The try throwing everything against the wall and see what sticks!

That's why I always watch Dobbs & Olberman. I do tune into Tweety because I usually find it better than Wolfe in his last hour, but some days, Wolfe wins!

18. As long as he's finally throwing truth against the wall,
then I don't know if I truly care about Tweety's motivation. The truth is the truth, when it comes to the war and how we got there. The most important thing is to STOP this bloody war. So if Tweety gets on the stop-the-war bandwagon, I may have to hold my nose, but another voice is welcome in my view.

23. Tweety's change is probably more about his brother than anything else.
His brother is running as a Rethug in Penn. for statewide office. Tweety probably realizes his chances of winning are diminishing by the day - the R coattails have become rat tails.

Tweets AND Imus run hot and cold.

Imus has said in the past that he only wants to be on "the winning team," also known as "kick the dog when it's down, pet it when it's up."
