I'm boss, Hil tells Bill
Senator's word is now 'final,' says the ex-Prez

BY KENNETH R. BAZINET
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - After being surprised by her husband's role in the Dubai ports deal, Sen. Hillary Clinton has insisted that Bill Clinton give her "final say" over what he says and does, well-placed sources said.

***

While she was blasting the Bush administration for allowing Dubai to run six of the country's ports, he was advising Dubai on how to sell the deal.

"Hillary has final say," said the adviser, and the ex-President's staff has been warned not to do or say anything without running it by the senator's handlers.

***

To boost his spouse's Oval Office bid, the former President is hosting several get-togethers around the country with ex-staffers and is planning some regional town hall meeting and panel discussions to talk about success stories from what Hillary Clinton likes to call "our administration."

***

The ex-President also sent his spokesman as well as his wife's handlers scrambling when he lashed out at President Bush during a speech in Dubai last November, saying the Iraq war was "a big mistake." Hillary Clinton has supported the war.

1. and the problem is?
seems to me that is as it should be, she has to answer to voters, he don't

they'll work this out just fine

we don't have a dole marriage here, where a low and petty bob dole figures out he'll never be president so let's sabotage his wife's chances by becoming the butt of viagra jokes and doing advertisements abt ejaculation dysfunction on the teevee

any mistakes bill has made seem to be honest ones, not aimed at hurting his wife or anyone else

9. Lost another anti-war voice
Great, she won't speak up against the war and now she tells Bill not to criticize the war! That's not what we need right now.

10. That's NOT the problem with Hillary
This Daily News piece is a nasty piece of work, not the least because its cheesy criticisms of a supposedly strident Hillary cover over the real problems with her candidacy. This is a politician who supports the Iraq war, still, who clammed up while striking transit workers got clobbered by city and state officials and who hasn't even now taken responsibility for nixing a single-payer health care system, then botching her own pro-industry plan when the smaller insurers rebelled. So what does the News take her to task for? Muzzling her husband. That's no crime, especially against someone who surely understands the importance of staying on message and ran a war room in his 92 race to ensure the campaign stayed focused! Those of us who think Hillary is politically poisonous should stay on message, too, and not get caught up in sexist drivel.

13. It's the message, not the messenger
Steph:

Why assume she has a criticism of the war? And if she does, so what? Why extend any more psychic energy over what Hillary Clinton "really and truly" believes than you would over a Sam Brownback or an Arlen Spector. Neither she nor Bill are progressives. His presidency was a failure; his policies either forgettable or regrettable, and she promises more of the same. It's the message that's the problem here, not the messenger. If this were 2008, and we were close to election eve, and the presidential race were tight, and it was a choice between Hillary or a Bush retread, I'd probably shut up about her for a bit. We're not there yet, are we? We can focus on just how awful her public pronouncements are, and how she and Chuck Schumer are stunting our ability to change the NY state party. We can also boost Jonathan Tasini's Senate primary candidacy. He's taking the fight to Hillary, and attacking her for what she stands for, not for how she treats her wayward husband. Good for Jonathan!

14. I didn't say that. I said she won't let Bill speak out against the war.
I don't know what you're referring to here: "Why assume she has a criticism of the war? And if she does, so what?" I didn't say anything like that. And I'm not concerned about how she treats her husband except that I would like to hear him speak out against this illegal, immoral war - it would be very powerful - and it's a shame that she feels she has to side with the warmongers to keep herself viable.
