Clark, a man of action
quoting from a firsthand account of Clark yesterday...

"Most of the questions today came from Veterans, and there was one question that produced a most poignant moment. The gentleman who asked the question served and was wounded in Vietnam. Several years after returning home, his son was born. Unfortunately, his son has severe medical problems, and although he is 28, has the mind of a 2-year old. This Veteran has been attempting to get his son's medical records from the VA for years. See, before he moved to Lawton, this man lived in Massachusetts, and he expressly said that he had tried to get help from John Kerry on this matter to no avail. He asked if Clark, as President, would get his son's medical records. General Clark answered, "Yes, but that's not all I am going to do." He looked this Veteran in the eye and said, "I want to get your information once we're finished and I will try to help you right now." Right then, we were shown just what Wes Clark is all about. In that moment, there was no talk about politics; there was no talk about being President. Instead, it was one person seeing the hurt in another and offering to help because he might be in a position to help, and because it is simply the right thing to do. And as soon as the event was officially over, a campaign staffer went to this Veteran to get all the information."

maybe you understand why i feel like i'd take a bullet for this man

1. He made the time to talk to my dad
I have posted about this before. He took the time to talk to my dad a Korean War Vet even though the people trying to get him to his next venue were urging him to hurry, my dad was like "OK you have to go thanks, but this man insisted that he finish talking with my dad and take the required picture with him and his grandson, he was so respectful to my dad. My dad came away after all these years that someone did respect and appreciate what these Korean Veterans went through. It is not called the "Forgotten War" for nothing. He knew so much about what my dad's unit and division did, it was amazing.

Take a bullet for him because of this?
You're easily impressed.

Have you ever seen a presidential campaign before? Clark is king of the empty rhetoric. It cost him nothing to say that and no one expects he able be able to follow through.

5. Just curious, bowens43....but who are you supporting?
And how do you know whether or not Clark followed up for that veteran? And if he did, how can you call that "empty rhetoric"?

10. Don't Read Too Much Into One or Two Incidents!
Helping individual constituents/voters is not unusual when stumping.

The key is reforming the system so these folks don't get in this situation to begin with.

I personally and professionally (Military/Veteran-wise) think Clark will take proper care of our military and vets.

6. We know by now
that everybody is not going to get it. But it takes a whole lot for a politician to impress me. Perhaps you are too easily unimpressed?

8. Two things
1. Where are all these mean hateful people coming from today?
2. Isn't it funny how Clark isn't a threat but supporters of all
types spout crap about him?

I knew it was you as soon as I was part-way through the 2nd paragraph. A quick glance to the upper-left to verify.

Yeah, one becomes a 4-star general through a concerted, diligent effort to never follow through.**

Wow.

Seriously. Are you keeping something from us? Were you one of those other guys at the West Point dance that were hot for Gert, and are still p-o'd because Wes won her heart?

EDIT: ** p.s. Like how he failed to follow through for the Kosovars, eh? Clark followed through there, to the detriment of his military career, facing opposition from Secretary of Defense Bill Cohen -- a Republican! -- and Hugh Shelton.

4. His genuine feelings
for people don't come across well in debates and pundit interviews but I've been simply amazed watching him in town hall meetings and grassroots campaigning -- Edwards seems to sqawk empathy, Clark demonstrates it.

"When you can do good, you should." Wes Clark

13. exactly
and that's why I'm for him. Also for those jaded cynics out there remember one thing:

Clark was drafted by the people (people like me BTW)

He's the real deal; he's action, not words; results not rhetoric.

9. Thanks TexasPatriot for your posting....
you know when you have a leader like General Wesley Clark you are ready to serve if needed. That is how my son feels if and when he chooses the military but I'm hoping he can serve our country in other ways.

Thanks again for your thread TexasPatriot! :-)

He can do a hell of a lot more good in this world than I'm likely to.

Get to know Wes, everybody. You just might come away as impressed as we are.
