Question for Kerry supporters re: fiscal discipline
Kerry supporters,

This country is going to need a LOT of fiscal discipline to get us out of W's current mess. Much more than we had under Clinton.

My question is: If Kerry wins the nomination, do you think he is enough of a deficit hawk to do what needs to be done, and what do you base your answer on?

Thanks in advance for your help,

PP

1. Well
This is going to be a tough problem and liberals will not be happy with whoever the Democratic President is. he will have to negotiate cuts with a GOP controlled house. My guess is that even though some of the tax cuts would be repealed..Kerry or anyone else would also have to cut many social programs.

2. That Kerry is FOR balanced budgets and cosponsored Gramm-Rudman bill
in the Senate. He and Fritz Hollings are well known deficit hawks on the Dem side. And he doesn't advocate doing it on the backs of social programs. He wants to cut Star Wars and mini-nukes, not social security.

Surely you must have studied all the candidates and their records by now? How else did you choose your candidate?

3. I expect Kerry supporters to be better versed on his positions
than I am. Sorry if I'm wrong about that.

Is that all you have? Because being disciplined fiscally is going to be a hard but necessary thing to do - Kerry is going to have to hold the line with his budgets and be able to explain to Congress and the people why they cannot have everything. That will take a lot of hard work.

Kerry must have been furious with the way Bush has been pouring money back into missile defense. I haven't heard him say much about that, but again, I'm not as familiar with his positions as you must be.
