Tancredo, colleague tussle in ugly spat
This is from yesterday, but it doesn't look like anyone posted it and it really is an amusing story. Tancredo is really representative of the new anti-immigrant hate wing of the GOP. Glad that good Democrats like Ted Kennedy have been able to pull in some of the saner GOP members out there to push for sensible immigration reform. Tancredo and the 87 other GOP members of the House Immigration Reform caucus (and one Democrat) need to be confronted just like Congressman Gutierrez had the guts to do.

Tancredo, colleague tussle in ugly spat
After TV debate, epithets hurled
By Anne C. Mulkern
Denver Post Staff Writer

Washington - A cursing, screaming, epithet-laden fracas erupted between Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo and an Illinois congressman this week after a televised debate about immigration.

The lawmakers disagree about exactly what happened during the spat Wednesday, but each tells a version that's pretty ugly.

Each accused the other of threatening bodily harm.

"It was a very peculiar event, I certainly have to tell you," Tancredo said Thursday evening.

Tancredo, R-Littleton, and Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., sparred Wed nesday on the CNBC cable-TV channel about which version of immigration reform Congress should enact.

1. it was posted here on DU the day it happened--but worth posting again.
tom tancredo is a hate-filled buffoon, a complete embarrassment to all thinking residents of the state. the sooner he is out of office, the better.

2. sounds like Congressman Gutierrez was the one to resort to racism
....Tancredo said that as they were removing their microphones afterward, Gutierrez noted that Tancredo had been late for the show and said, "The immigrant shows up on time. The gringo was late. I guess that's why we get the jobs."

Gutierrez's spokesman Scott Frotman agreed that his boss made that "little joke." Then the stories of what happened diverge...

The pro-illegal immigration crowd is going to have to learn how to behave better in public if they are going to win over anyone to their open borders agenda

3. This is a conundrum which I can't understand
This is a conundrum to me. For the life of me I can't understand the position of the Party on this. The fact is that most Americans (probably 65-75%) and especially those who work for a living in what were historically Democratic blue collar jobs want the border secured and illegal immigration stopped.

They want it stopped because they are getting screwed royally as they lose jobs and wages, and it is moving up the food chain. The people affected by this are core Democratic union / blue collar constituents?

Meanwhile big and small business, mainly Republicans, want a never ending supply of cheap labor that costs Americans much more than it saves. The Republicans are torn on this because the party is controlled by the pro-business wing. Bush is in the bag on it and wants to keep the status quo of open borders so his "have more" base is happy.

Meanwhile the Democratic Party opposes controls on illegal immigration, which as I said earlier is in opposition to much of the constituency.

Will someone please tell me how this makes sense to the Democratic Party?

5. With all due respect what are you saying?
What are you telling me? Are you saying it's Tancredos fault for being mean spirited or what?

Obviously you are comfortable and secure in YOUR job so you have no need or inclination to be concerned about 11 million Americans that are either losing their job, or having wages cut. These Americans should be seeing the benefit of rising wages from labor shortages instead of being railroaded out by people who shouldn't be in our country.

7. sorry, this was supposed to be a response to #2.
and quite frankly, I am a LOT more concerned about the jobs that are being outsourced and having those lying thugs in DC telling us that such outsourcing is actually GOOD for our economy.
