Greenwald: Great Piece on Dem Senators In Retreat (Censure)
Some juicy quotes from the WaPo thrown in:

"I haven't read it," demurred Barack Obama (Ill.).

"I just don't have enough information," protested Ben Nelson (Neb.). "I really can't right now," John Kerry (Mass.) said as he hurried past a knot of reporters -- an excuse that fell apart when Kerry was forced into an awkward wait as Capitol Police stopped an aide at the magnetometer.

Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) brushed past the press pack, shaking her head and waving her hand over her shoulder. When an errant food cart blocked her entrance to the meeting room, she tried to hide from reporters behind the 4-foot-11 Barbara Mikulski (Md.).

"Ask her after lunch," offered Clinton's spokesman, Philippe Reines. But Clinton, with most of her colleagues, fled the lunch out a back door as if escaping a fire.

Profiles in courage, indeed.

7. That's the quality of U.S. political discourse, even on specialty blogs.
AND why only 25% of the adult population vote regularly. AND why disenfranchisement lasted for hundreds of years for Blacks, Women, landless poor, and FELONS. OOOOO those scary cocaine dealers and husband murdering abused wives, they'd ruin our democratic process.

9. Is Kerry on the record on that?
I'd like to see some written/recorded statement from him to that effect. I know his staffers have been telling people he supports Feingold, but that can mean a lot of things. Saying you'll vote for it if it comes up isn't the same level of support as co-sponsoring, for instance.

4. this is totally disgusting
I've emailed both my Senators about this-haven't been able to get through on the phone. They are both Dems, but if the leaders are scurrying away, what will give Lincoln and Pryor the courage to stand up and support the censure?

5. One thought!
I thought of finding another party but I've been around longer than any of these, and now believe THEY need to get into another party! Let them go where they please and soon! We sure as hell can't
depend on this bunch for anything different taking place if they remain in office very damned long!
I do predict one thing: If things don't begin changing before November, Many, like myself, will just say "what the hell", might as well forget about voting, and prepare for the worst, because it will never get better in the next 50 years!

And, relating to A.L.'s post below on the abject willingness of the media to simply pass along even factually false claims, much of the fear exhibited by Democrats is based on this factually false premise repeated in today's Washington Post:

"Many Democrats, while sympathetic to Feingold's maneuver, appeared to be distancing themselves from his resolution yesterday, wary of polls showing that a majority of Americans side with the president on wiretapping tactics."

That is just so very false. Reading polls is not that hard. Even reporters -- and Democratic consultants -- ought to be able to manage that. And one poll after the next for weeks now has shown that a majority believes (.pdf) that the President broke the law, and that a majority opposes eavesdropping on Americans without warrants. There is just no excuse for this falsehood to be repeated.
