Some Good News from a Red State Legislature
Georgia House is in session and here is some good stuff:

- A bid to give the government legal power to do business with religious groups failed by a 95-74 vote (why it was even considered is itself sad news)

- The house rejected a bill that would allow pharmacists to refuse prescriptions they believe would terminate a pregnancy. The proposal got 82 votes but needed 91 to pass. (No word on what any penalty might be if some zealot refuses to do his/her job.)

Not much, but good news nonetheless.

1. Great news.
What you say is not much is often a lot to us in the red states. We have to take every little victory and build on it.

Thanks for the good news.

2. The latest word I got yesterday
on the Mississippi legislature about the Abortion Ban Bill was that the house and senate were fighting over some provisions in it. One outside possibility is that the bill would die on the vine. Hopefully I can report that later today. Every little bit of good news is one small note in a beautiful symphony. I get metaphorically carried away in the morning.

3. Sing it!
I am not certain how it all works but could it get sent back to committee and die there? Let us know and good luck.

Play it brother.

4. The house originated the bill
and then the Senate started dickering with it, pissing off some of the guys in the House. Yesterday, the bossman in the house said if the senate messed with it he'd let it die a slow lingering death. I'll see what I can find out today

5. Well at least you can say
that it isn't getting passed easily. I don't really care who and why they are fighting if it kills it. There is some hope.

Is it Dems and Repubs fighting or is it just fighting over details like how long the Doc should be jailed and if the death penalty is appropriate here? If it gets killed now those might be good things to know so you know where to start fighting it coming up again.

Let us know. I will check back later when you find out.

6. The story wasn't a pulitzer candidate
but I believe the point of contention was the senate's insistance that the mother receive a sonogram.

Of course. It would not be dickering over whose rights are getting tromped on. Ahh red state politics, know them well.

9. Actually
I'd be coming at you from the West. I'm in Mississippi but was reading about the Georgia legislative stuff while I was looking for MS legislative stuff. I would feel bad if I sent you any political elixir I might find in this fine state. Keep up the good fight teammate.
