...The Democratic Strategist that asked him not to run got "The Daily Show" treatment!

The Al Gore tape was awesome!

Oh! And the author of "Misquoting Jesus" is the guest! I heard that is a good book too.

2. I'm reading that book
I think the Da Vinci code wave is helping it, but it's a great book.

The author is a biblical scholar who started out as a born
again fundie, but as he learned more and more
about the contradictions in all the ancient greek
translations of the bible, (he says there are more than
50,000, all different..) his intellectual
honesty forced him to admit that the
story is full of holes and has to read
symbollically, not literally.

5. It says exactly what is wrong with the democratic party today
and if these so-called wise men think that running hillary in 2008 will be a win, then they will be wrong AGAIN

Paul did a great job exposing the truth of our DLC.

19. That Was Classic!
Especially since the Environment is one of our most Important Issues today!

I have to say that Paul Hackett was really good on The Daily Show. And to be as shallow as the skit portrayed politicians..he was adorable!

8. One of the best segments they've done in a while
It was a ruthless sendup of DC insider Dem consultant cluelessness. And Hackett deserves real props for being such a good sport in it. Fantastic!

9. Yes, it was hilarious
I nearly fell out of my seat laughing. Kudos to Hackett for having a sense of humor about it while also making his point that the Democratic Party is running away from people who speak up.

Do I hear the faint voice of Russ Feingold somewhere? Bueller? Bueller?

10. I thought Hackett played it smart
He was funny, didn't take himself too seriously, went along with the gags, and sold the skit.

He's got a future in elective office.

Or maybe radio. On Air America. Paul Hackett, Democratic Warrior!

He should work on getting lots of TV exposure, then funding a race will be easy. He's made for TV.

16. Not sure he fits on Air America
Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 08:12 AM by OzarkDem
After listening to him on radio in Cincinnati, he's heavy on the Marine macho man, sexist, dirty jokes type of material. I'm sure it would play well with the Limbuagh crowd, though.

The most consistent mistake people make about Hackett is assuming that, because he opposes the Iraq war he's liberal. That's definitely not the case.

He was careful not to make any jokes about having his wife "pleasure" him on national tv. He saves that stuff for his radio interviews. Marine humor, ya know.

17. That consultant, Hank Sheinkopf
that Helms interviewed in the skit was the SAME consultant that was on the Daily Show earlier that night. And SO disgusting.

He was being straight on the Daily Show and I wonder how much of his mindset is the whole damn problem we are seeing with the Dems now. What he said on Dobbs fits perfectly with Helms analogy of being hit with a bottle and waiting for the guy to hit himself.

Look at what Sheinkopf said when Lou asked about Dems standing with Feingold:

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0603/14/ldt.01.html

DOBBS: They go along with this president. The fact is that Russ Feingold stands up, calls for censure of the president of the United States. He doesn't get a single Democrat to stand with him. What's your reaction?
<snip>
DOBBS: Hank, from the left.

SHEINKOPF: From the left, if I'm a Democrat, I get out of the line fire and let these guys keep stepping all over themselves. The best trick the Democrats have tactically is to let the Republicans keep governing, because every day they govern, it's going to drive up the numbers for the Democrats.

<snip>
SHEINKOPF: We live in a land of sound bites. They've got to wake up. Every time they open their mouths, they make it easier for Democrats. Democrats just need to stand there, smile, let them keep doing what they are doing.

DOBBS: Well, what about the rest of us who are not smiling right now? I mean, we have serious issues here.

The guy only looked like a big joke, he makes his living as a Dem consultant.

http://www.nyu.edu/gsas/dept/politics/pcm/faculty/sheinkopf.html
Hank Sheinkopf, president of Sheinkopf Communications Ltd., has been a political, public affairs and corporate media consultant for over 25 years. Sheinkopf has advised Democratic political campaigns at every level, from city council to President, in every region of the United States and was a member of the Clinton-Gore 1996 Campaign Media team

So it notes no one current, doesn't matter. What he advised is exactly what the Dems are doing now...just smiling as bush trashes the country and the Constitution, as though Republicans doing bad for us is good enough for them.

Screw that, we need leadership, not gamesmanship as things go unchallenged.

I don't care if Russ broke some etiquette, screw that too.

The Daily Show thing was hilarious, but it is so sad because it reflects so much truth.

What the hell are they thinking? We vote for them by default and that is good enough?

20. Dems in DC desperately need new talent
pronto.

Though I don't see how this meshes with Paul Hackett. Hackett wasn't ready for prime time, period. This guy's blathering had nothing to do with Hackett pulling out.

24. Not with real life Hackett
but with Helms interview with him during the Hackett skit. When Helms was talking about how the mugger was beating him with a broken bottle but he just waited for the mugger to accidentally hit himself and eventually he did. So though Helms said he was unconscious he considered it a victory.

But it fit with the Hackett skit too...don't make waves.

18. Hackett's a liar and he's got TV anchorman looks.What a fine main-
stream media,Dem-trashing future he has!!1111!1

"...Ari Berman, The Nation: One thing that hasn’t come up so far is Paul
Hackett, who obviously you’ve helped in the past. Hackett says he will campaign for you but at the same time he’s leaking an opposition memo about you to the press; he’s bashed you on right-wing radio, and he, generally speaking, seems more concerned with becoming a martyr than in helping Democrats get elected. Do you think that he will campaign for you in places like southern Ohio and how important a role do you think he can play in helping you win?

Brown: I hear what Paul says, that he will support me. I hope that he does. I hope that he campaigns extensively around the state. I have no idea what he’s actually going to do. He’s made a major contribution, especially in the special election last year, helping, with a lot of others, to make Iraq…helping people to understand more about the Iraq war. I hope he continues that kind of education for Ohioans.

Terence Samuel, AOL.com: Can you comment on how that scenario’s played out and what it says about the party generally -- the Paul Hackett situation?

Brown: It says little about the party. It says that one candidate was thirty points behind in the polls and barely had enough money in the bank to meet his payroll, and had no endorsements, only had union and only about three elected officials that I know of and party leaders endorsements, and wasn’t able to put together a big Senate race. A Senate race in a big state is a very extraordinarily complicated machinery to put together, and Paul had never been in a big race before. He’d been in a congressional race, which is a sprint, where he got huge help from outside his district, outside the state, including from me. I sent an organizer down there to put his get-out-the-vote operation together and raise money for him, and so did others. In the Senate race, he was way more on his own and he had to go from a city council seat, or a village council, in a town of four or five or six thousand to city council, I guess, to run for the Senate is a step that is very, very difficult and I think that he came up against reality. But it says nothing about the party. The party was not involved. I had my allies. Henry Waxman called some of his Los Angeles contributors for me and said “Sherrod Brown is the real progressive in this race; I hope you help him.” I had people around the country whom I knew doing that, who were progressives, but there was no party leader involvement…Dean or Reid. So, the reality was just politics... "

23. My former senator, John Edwards, had never run for any office before.
The key was the money. He was a multi-millionaire who put tons of money into the primaries. He was running against some very outstanding poeple. But the money got John Edwards all over the tv and gave him name recognition.

Has Sherrod Brown called Paul Hackett yet to actually ASK for his support?

29. Best. Daily. Show.Segment. EVER !
Paul was a good sport, and whether he was right or wrong about he played his Ohio candidacy, there was a very sweet (buy a clue DNC/DLC/DCCC/DSCC) message in this segment.

Only to be followed by the "Obermann-Colbert" smackdown.

Both shows repeated at 8-9pm EST tonight,Comedy Central, and always pisses me off these are against LIVE Olbermann Countdown.
