Edwards' wife a 'real' person

At the Manchester Public Library last month, John Edwards introduced his wife of 26 years to a New Hampshire crowd. Elizabeth Edwards, standing just behind her husband in a black pantsuit, stepped forward on the stage and waved to an enthusiastic audience.

"That's his wife?" asked a woman in the crowd. "She looks so real."

"I would back her for president," said Sandy Mucci, of Meredith, N.H. "Being a stodgy old Yankee, I thought John Edwards was trying to get away on good looks and charm. And then I met her. They complement each other so well."

I like the story, but don't understand the editors' choice of headline! I also like Elizabeth Edwards very much.

5. she actually jokes about it herself

she jokes about these things with her husband herself. i read how she would told some woman with white hair that her own hair is really that color but she doesn't want to be mistaken for john edwards' mother so she colors it. and some other things. there was a good article on her from a few weeks ago. something about how she knows her mind and speaks it.

However, let's not make the same mistake as the media. They could have been semi-joking. We can't assume that everything that is overheard and written down was said in deadly earnest.

I don't think it's ridiculous; I think it is a backdoor attempt to get at Edwards and an insult to feminists. But, hey, that's just me...
