Gert Clark told Delaware Democrats on Sunday to come out Tuesday and help keep her husband, retired Gen. Wesley Clark, in the race for the presidency.
"You are important," she said during stops in Wilmington at the Windsor Tower Apartments and the Delaware College of Art and Design. "I was talking to our supporters in New York, Florida and other places, and they're saying that if you get us to third base, we'll get you home."
A poll released last week by the American Research Group has Clark in fourth place here behind Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass, Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean. The poll was taken before Dean replaced his campaign manager and shifted his focus from Delaware and the six other states with primaries Tuesday to the next round of primaries.
Clark was introduced at both stops by Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del. Biden said he helped persuade her to let her husband enter the race in October. Biden has referred to Wesley Clark as a "close friend" and, during the Balkan crisis of the 1990s, called him a "soulmate." As was the case at Kerry's rally Friday, Biden said his appearance should not be taken as an endorsement.
