The War Room : Sunday, March 12, 2006
From my perspective, I see a Republican Party in disarray but desperately trying to get their message back on course. They haven't yet recovered from the Dubai ports sale debacle - and listening to a Bill Frist this morning, we might question whether there are still plans behind the scenes to push it through. They may not be ready to give up on this "deal". The Republicans are very careful not to stray too far from their support of their Chimpster president.

Also, we see abortion as the issue that is simmering on the back burner. They haven't decided yet that this will be the winning issue for them that it has been in the past. George Will on ABC's This Morning said that up to this point, many people had seen Democrats as too radical with their suppport of "partial-birth abortion", etc, but that they may now see the Republicans as going too far and that it may backfire on the Repubs, paraphrasing.

And the Iraq War is the issue that will not go away. The Republicans want to withdraw a good number of troops from Iraq before November so they will look better for the election. However, with the "sectarian" civil war growing each day, it may get more and more difficult to withdraw the troops for the benefit of the politicians.

And we have Russ Feingold's announcement this morning. He will propose the "censure" of the president for his admitted breaking of the law. Since the Republicans control the House and Senate, it is doubtful that this will come to fruition but it will keep the attention on the spying and the criminal acts of this White House.

1. May I join you in the war room?
Now is the time to put our foot on the Republican party's throat...

We need to portray them to the public as:

disorganized
too corrupt to reform themselves
hopelessly out of touch with "merikun" values
fanatical "religionists"

Who the F**k is in charge here??????

5. Absolutely !
We need to have a discussion on the daily events on which the Republicans are trying to spin the American people and which are important to us all, and keep it focused on two or three issues without becoming scattered in every which direction.

3. Meet The Press
Tim Russert interviewed the authors of COBRA II on MTP this morning. Their assessments and conclusions are absolutely stunning. These include:
1. Commanders in the field being very concerned about insurgents "in Toyota trucks with RPG's" on their way to Baghdad but being blown off by the brass in DC.
2. One general being dismissed for telling Rumsfeld and Bush that we were "on the wrong track" six months after our invasion.
3. Rumsfeld's being "hell bent" on running the war like a business: lots of technology, limited human resources and as cheaply as possible.

I predict that this book will cause a furor.

7. I saw Biden on MTP & he told of a recent meeting with Bush in which
Bush kept talking about the "terrorist"problem in Iraq. Biden informed dimson that there is a huge homgrown insurgency in Iraq and dimson needed to get with the program and understand who the insurgents are. Biden said twice that by Bush's "dangerous incompetence," we have traded Saddam Hussein for chaos.

Biden is one of the brightest senators, IMO. He always does his homework and does not spew platitudes, but gives facts. You might not like his wordiness at the Scalito hearings or his arrogance but give him credit that he's got a handle on Iraq, stays informed and has been pounding away at Bush on Iraq issues.

8. Sen Biden made an interesting comment....
He said he told Bush that if they caught every al Qaeda member tomorrow, this war would still be there. It seems to me that Bush and Cheney have created something larger and beyond the "war on terror". And it was not necessary.

4. when repukes attack a Dem candidate for national office, Dems must say
"Republicans prefer to attack Democratics who haven't been in power these past six years, instead of solving the problems Republicans have created with their disastrous Iraq War, where they've proven themselves to be dangerously incompetent."
