Lieberman to drop out Feb. 3
Sneed is told Sen. Joseph Lieberman plans to pull the plug on his presidential campaign on Feb. 3, which is the day he gets federal matching funds from the FEC in order to pay off his campaign debt.

*Ironically, it's also Primary Tuesday, but at the rate he's going, it doesn't look like he'll win.

1. If he does, he'll back Kerry
They are the closest when it comes to their position on the war.

4. I think I recall that
he won't endorse; just wait until the nominee is picked. He knows he can't be of help to any other candidate.

9. How close is Lieberman's position on the war compared to Edwards?
Closer.

13. Well, it seems it doesn't matter but

You may be correct, but as a long-time Senator I think if he did endorse someone he would go with the guy that's a)close to his own position, b)the favorite, and c)someone he knows better (and from the northeast).

15. Agreed. Kerry's is pretty much like Clark's
that was a smear to compare him to Joe.

2. Seems to me
any people planning to vote for Joe on Tues. might want to know he's on his way out.

3. True.
This was reported last week.

He had to hang on in order to try to pay off some of his campaign debts.

Apparently, he will then sit it out, support whoever gets the nomination but probably not be asked to campaign. I'm sure he'll do whatever the democratic party asks of him.

6. If that's true
That he won't be stumping for anyone, it's good news. People diss Lieberman, but we would all kill for his votes at this point.

10. Delaware? I think you mean "Lieber-ware"!
And it's spreading to North Isadorkota!

(Hmmm, on second thought, "Lieberware" sounds too much like spiked leather underpants with extra strapping)

12. OMG! That's incredibly funny!
If nothing else, even if Joe hanging in until Feb. 3 has seriously hurt my man Clark's chances, his introduction of "Joementum" into the political discourse may have almost been worth it. Almost...

Can some candidates be staying in the race to pay off debt with donations?

I am not sure how it works. Are candidate responsible for all debts incurred during their run? I would think so. And all of the candidates have spent some big money to try and win Iowa and NH. I could see someone staying in long enough to just get the bills paid off. Anyone else think this may be a reason that some are hanging on?

18. Not sure he can before the deadline without forfeiting the matching funds?
Maybe someone else knows for sure?
