Wesley Clark (news - web sites) played the military card on Sunday as he campaigned with the man who saved his life in Vietnam and accused President Bush (news - web sites) of making the same mistakes in Iraq (news - web sites) as the United States did in Southeast Asia.
Polls show Clark leading in Oklahoma and having a fighting chance against another decorated Vietnam veteran, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites), in Arizona in the Democratic presidential primaries and caucuses in seven states on Tuesday.
Clark tried to draw on support from veterans with stops in the military retirement community of Lawton, Oklahoma, and the northern Arizona city of Flagstaff, receiving enthusiastic receptions in both places.
When an audience burst into spontaneous applause at one of his lines, he said, "Thank you, I love that sound."
