Bush targets Congress in rare verbal attack

March 09 2006 at 01:54AM

By Caren Bohan

New Orleans - President George Bush accused Congress on Wednesday of shortchanging New Orleans of about $1,5-billion in funds to rebuild levees that were breached by flood waters when Hurricane Katrina struck.

"Congress heard our message about improving the levees but they shortchanged the process by about $1,5-billion," Bush said in a rare attack on members of his own party as he toured the devastated city.

"And so in order to help fulfil our promise on the levees, Congress needs to restore the $1,5-billion to make this a real commitment to inspire the good folks down here that they'll have a levee system that will encourage development and reconstruction," Bush added.

3. God help me, I'm starting to admire this guy in a perverse sort of way
You've got to have balls the size of grapefruits to say the shit this guy does. It transcends arrogance. It's like Ted Bundy admonishing someone because they don't treat women with respect. After sitting there, ignoring every single warning about the levees, then going off on vacation and clearing brush for three days while people drowned and a major city died, then marching back and claiming that no one could have predicted what happened, then...

Wow. My hat's off to this guy. Next thing you know, he's going to start criticizing Democrats for starting an unjust war in Iraq.

4. Bush meets regularly with Republicans to plot strategy. Perhaps...

will be the last straw as he tries to absolve himself of blame.

Republicans had better strike back, if they want any chance on November. This would equate to a Republican backlash on the White House.

Let the games begin.

7. Not to mention.........
not to mention the fact that HE was the one who cut funding for the levee construction in the first place and it was HIS decision to dismantle FEMA and and make it part of the dysfunctional Department of Homeland Security. :eyes:

Gee, bush "playing the blame game" and shifting responsibility to everyone but himself, again. Go figure!

9. It helps if you're delusional and a raging alcoholic...
you were born into a very rich and powerful family, everybody's scared shitless of your ex-president daddy, and you're constantly surrounded by big tough guys with huge guns 24/7. That tends to grow your balls for you.

5. Well, sheep dip
You could have vetoed the spending bill when it crossed your desk, now couldn't you have?

You know, drag that dusty stamp that you have yet to use out. You haven't lost it, I know, because you just threatened to use it on that nasty port bill that nobody but you and your Arab friends like. You must know where it is. It's so you can reject bills you don't like and send them back to Congress for work.

YOU shortchanged the process by pulling the funding on improving the levees to finance your Iraqi invasion--MAYBE THEY WOULD HAVE HELD IF YOU HADN'T!!!

Equally important, you didn't sit down with Louisiana's state and local goverments and formulate a backup evacuation/relocation/reconstruction plan. There's no excuse for this six month's worth of making up solutions as you go along.

10. OK, I'm really starting to believe Bush v. GOP is theater.
Bush attacks Congress, Congress defies Bush. Elections ahead, and they must get the stench of the chimp off of candidates before November, no?
