Democratic support from a surprising source

Democrats must win a majority in the House of Representatives this November. If we play our cards right, we can get support from a surprising source. From Elon University in North Carolina:

Elon University Poll shows support for Bush at 43 percent in Southeastern states

A new Elon University Poll shows support for President George W. Bush stands at 43 percent in five Southeastern states, while 52 percent of citizens disapprove or strongly disapprove of the job Bush is doing…

The poll compared party support between the last presidential election and the upcoming congressional election. Forty-two percent of respondents supported Democrats in the 2004 presidential election, while 46 percent supported Republicans. When asked which party they will support in the next congressional election, 33 percent said they will support Democrats and 28 percent said they will support Republicans. Twenty-nine percent said they did not know.

“What jumps out at you here is the difference in drop-off for Democrats and Republicans,” Bacot said. “The Republican drop-off is twice that of the Democrats, suggesting that Bush’s problems may be trickling down to Republican members of Congress.”

You can help take back the South!

Steve Sinton (Cross posted in the Georgia forum)

One of the creators of Air America Radio, Steve Sinton, is running for Congress in the 6th District of Georgia. That’s Newt Gingrich’s old district, and if you think it’s impossible for a Democrat to win there, just look at the study posted above.

The South is back in play, ladies and gentlemen, and you can be a part of history by helping Steve win his race. His opponent, Tom Price, is a one-term Republican, a doctor who opposes stem cell research and affordable health care, and who thinks abortion decisions should not be left to a woman and her doctor. Price receives most of his campaign contributions from business, and he votes the ruinous Republican line almost exclusively.

Help Steve beat his Republican opponent. Steve has a new website, and you can post your ideas and comments on his blog.

Stacey Tallitsch (Cross posted in the Louisiana forum)

Stacey is running in Louisiana’s 1st District, right outside New Orleans. It’s the district where former KKK grand dragon David Duke ran (as a Republican) some years ago. It was also the seat of disgraced Republican marital cheater, almost-Speaker Bob Livingston.

Stacey is also facing a first termer, Bobby Jindal, who consistently votes the Republican line.

When even right-wing columnist Bob Novak complains about the mess the Republicans have made of the Katrina disaster followup, you know there’s an opportunity for Democrats there. No one will work harder than Stacey to help Louisianians, since he’s one of those who lost almost everything to the storm.

Help Stacey defeat his Republican opponent.

1. Keep pressure on EVERYWHERE
Let's stop trying to "hold" the blue states but dive deep into roots of the former democratic majority, the south. We need to peel away as many voters as possible in the south, just getting them to abandon the GOP label and declare as independents would be huge.

Keep pressure on EVERYWHERE
