Penalty for performing an Abortion
The Mississippi legislature showing they are slaves to the religiously insane passed legislation outlawing abortion (except in cases of rape or incest). The penalty for the mother - nothing. The penalty for the person performing the abortion, $5,000 fine and one year in prison.

Religious zealots talk of sanctity of life and equate abortion with murder, so the fine is one year in prison? For murder? I guess the legislature is wink-winking at the electorate telling us yes we are slaves to the guys in the pulpits but based on the penalty, we really don't think abortion is that bad; certainly not murder. Who are the biggest fools in this menagerie?

Wouldn't a real religious zealot insist on the death penalty for someone performing an abortion. Their whole existence is upside down.

1. What about the woman? She hired a killer, didn't she?
What about the penalty for that?

2. Both should get life, if pre-meditated.

I've been asking what the penalty would be for as long as these people have kept their legalistic issues in the forefront.

I could not imagine what the follow through would be and I have never found anyone talking or writing about the penalty. I thought it would place everything in perspective if we knew what the penalty would be.

I believe the female MUST be penalized except in cases of rape. In cases of rape, the male must be penalized side-by-side with the doctor. We will then burden the courts even more and have an unending line of right wing lawyers and judges showing their stuff to the world. We will see them take their vengeance out on females and the doctors or abortinists while their own daughters will fly off to France or Costa Rica or somewhere.

Whether it's the doctor or the people who had sex that will be penalized, there will be an entirely new crop of private investigators, lawyers, judges, court reporters, jailers, court newspeople, file keepers. It will require new courtrooms and jails. And that is one of the ways the economy will grow.

But getting their way here will not stop these people from saying that we need less government in our lives. Steve Forbes and Grover Norquist can explain how the government will shrink with new penalties for abortions.

What is the penalty in South Dakota?

3. I could be wrong
As I recall, and I'd have to go wading through Roe again to confirm, the problem with the Texas law was that it did penalize the mother. I remember a professor in an undergrad con law class getting quite worked up over the stupidity of the Texas legislature in this case because a penalty on the doctor would likely have been upheld at that time.
