For all of the people on DU who have said that the protests of the last week are "Anti-Bush" and not "Anti-American," with all due respect...color yourself WRONG.

The media has reported on MULTIPLE OCCASIONS that the cries from India and Pakistan are for "Death To America." Do you have an internet connection? Can you READ? They are not talking about George W. Bush. Do you know who they are talking about?

YOU.

YOUR KIDS. YOUR HUSBAND. YOUR WIFE.

A fucking PLANE flown into a BUILDING that ROBS you of EVERYTHING YOU'VE EVER LOVED.

What part of "Death To America" do you NOT understand?

YOU can choose to be apologetic for these cries. I choose NOT TO BE.

FUCK anyone who cries for "Death To America." There IS no "good" reason for it.

THIS is the legacy of George W. Bush.

LOOK at your husband, your wife, your kids, your friends.

People you DO NOT KNOW in India and Pakistan WANT YOU DEAD.

What part of "Death To America" do you NOT UNDERSTAND?

1. the american culture
We're probably the most contradictary of citizens--who struggle to become a rugged individual while relying on other's affirmations; who have the power to help so many people raise awareness, eradicate diseases and poverty, but are so self consumed we cannot think globally. I guess it's that age old question about Americans--our good intentions but our inability to recognize other perspectives. And I don't necessarily believe all Americans are like this way, or that all nations view every single American as evil. But I suppose when you have an administration representing the entire nation, including its people, it's a bit difficult to paint a rosier picture. Knowing of these contradictions? I read alot--a lot of perspectives, a lot that reflect my own preference. I just want to see the good in people and hope to god that we can get back on the right track...

3. That's true...I just don't understand why people apoligize...
...for those who say it.

People have stood in the streets of India and cried for "Death To America."

People have stood in the streets of Pakistan and cried for "Death To America."

Go to Google News. Go to Yahoo News.

It's THERE. They SAID it. I don;pt have an AGENDA. I'm not making it UP.

So given that FACT, I do not understand why people are saying "Don't blame the Indians, Don't blame the Pakistanis."

If they want me DEAD, I DO "blame" them.

I really, really don't understand why some people feel the need to apologize for people who WANT...US...DEAD.

:grr:

4. No good reason for it.
The worlds poor all of a sudden cry 'death to America' for no good reason. The reasoning here is that
as a race the other worlders just can't think straight. We are just about as good as people can be and
those other people are genetically inferior and therefore hate us.
We have done nothing wrong.
We have never been a tool of their oppression.
We have never supported fascist governments and been integral to the formation of death squads.
We have never committed the most heinous of human rights crimes all to support our holy overseas corporations.
We have always demanded that our overseas companies never operate slave shops. In fact our Dept of State
inspects our international corporations to be sure they are not simply raping the human and material resources of third
world countries while simply paying bribes to the rich families that rule.
"The Ugly American" is a fantasy book but Barnes and Noble mistakenly keeps it in it's business section.
This country really really cares about the poor and would never kill just to reinforce our self image as
Gods Chosen Consumers.
All the above is BS
This is true:
People in Iraq are dead and dying by the thousands at the hands of our military and they haven't done a god damned thing to us.
I am not the pillager. My government is the pillager. My government uses my tax dollars, my silence my thirst for cheap energy to
do these things.
We are complicit. I am complicit. But I sure as hell don't delude myself into thinking the other guy is somehow irrationally evil and so
worthy of our phosphorus bombs and our shock and awe.
We are a bad ass nation and have been screwing the little guy for most of our history.
You may have a heart of gold. Our corporations, our money men and their military do not.

6. I give ignorance a break until ignorance wants me dead.
And I applaud anyone who would be willing to die at the hands of ignorance.

And if you are saying that my post made you view me as a freeper, PM me and I'll tell you how I feel about that.

9. No, your post reminds me of freeper speak..
I should know, I work with them.

Your post sounds like the comments they use to justify racism and anti-semitism.

And their hatred starts with ignorance of the world around them.

Nationalism is myopic elitism at its worst, and it's also the major reason why we are so hated.

10. Who said they hated it here?
If you cannot see what's wrong with this country, how can you try to change it?

Dissent is patriotic.

11. Love It Or Leave It is not worthy of us.
Edited on Sat Mar-04-06 08:02 PM by niallmac
Blind allegiance is not necessary to be an American.
If we are all yes men and yes women how do we stay strong?
I don't have to leave this country. This country needs me.
This country needs all of us. But if I state the record don't kill
the messenger. If we are afraid to look at what has motivated this
country in the past and refuse to look at what we have done
in our lesser moments then we really don't need to vote.
just let those greedy bastards run rampant and in my name no less.
I just want to be the guy that once in a while cried BS.
Otherwise I'm not much of a hero.

On edit: Two years on DU and I still can't seem to attach my responses to the right message.

12. #4 is on target, and no, I don't hate my Country or fellow citizens...
... nor do I condone violence or calls to violence. But it is well to understand where it comes from, if we should ever hope for a more peaceful world. Yes, we have been agents of oppression, torture, and exploitation. I think that many victims of such - or at least their leaders - are far more aware of our role than is the ordinary US citizen, most of whom - historically, not just now - seem to accept their Government's self-definition as an agent of peace, Democracy, and human rights.

I doubt the OP is so naive, and I empathize with his/her anger - I don't wish to see any of my loved ones or fellow citizens die for the crimes of the CIA and US corporations. But I think the level of naivete in the US about the actions of our Government is hardly credible to much of the world. After all, we are the highly educated citizens of a Democracy. We vote those responsible for our foreign policy, responsible for the death we deal so casually to others, into office again and again.

14. Funny, most of what I've seen is about "anti-Bush" protests.
Anti-Bush, not anti-American.

John Kerry was just there in January and was received quite nicely.

I'd like to remind everyone about the vigils held around the world for us following the events on September 11.
