Question about Al Sharpton comment on NAFTA
During his forum today, Al Sharpton commented that he would do away with NAFTA, the thing that causes all our jobs to go to Asia. It just hit me. NAFTA = North American Free Trade Agreement right?
So how can IT cause our jobs to go to ASIA? Seriously, I studied some of the history of NAFTA and don't remember anything about it including Asia.
Isn't GATT and the WTO the program that brings in nations from Europe and Asia?

1. Al Sharpton doesn't know much.
NAFTA has nothing to do with Asia. When someone opposes NAFTA, however, it goes without saying that that person is against free trade with China and other Asian countries.

2. That's what I was wondering - if he was just mistaken
I take it that you are saying that one can't be opposed to one without being opposed to the other, right?
I am really trying to understand the trade issues, to an extent. It is probably way to complicated for me to understand completely.
The alternative to free trade is bilateral trade, right? Bilateral trade deals with specific products at particular times, right? If not, what is the alternative?

8. You can
be for NAFTA but against expansion of trade to countries like China. Being against NAFTA in itself is the more extreme position so someone who wants to do away with NAFTA is obviously not going to be keen on Cambodian sweatshop labor.

7. It is good. I'm just
pointing out that Sharpton likes to make a fool of himself like when he couldn't explain what was wrong with the Federal Reserve. I like him, but I just cringe when he does this. I wish he'd just do some research on the issues.
