If IWR no better than Tonkin Gulf Resolution, why so many Vietnam vets
supporting Kerry? I would think Vietnam vets would be among the first to call JK on his hypocrisy (if it is that) on this issue?

1. Many Vietnam vets supported Johnson and Nixon.

5. Even after Tonkin was revealed to be a lie?
My question is, if there is such a similarity between IWR and the Res that sent them to war, wouldn't they be questioning him intensely for voting yes on another Tonkin Gulf?

2. On the Tonkin Gulf Resolution
who do you blame, the Congress who was lied to, or the people who told the lies?

3. What has Tonkin Gulf got to do with anything?
The Vets are supporting a comrade who stood with them at the worst. It's a bond never forgotten. And it was honestly earned.

It has nothing to do with votes. Or declarations of war.

It has to do with being there, more than that...it has to do with what Kerry did when he was there.

8. That's a good point

I'm sure you're right. This might be a dumb-question post, it was just one in my head because I've heard so many comparisons between the two resolutions, and so many NON-vets feel betrayed, I only wondered... But loyalty to a faithful comrade-in-arms certainly is just as good a reason to support the man as any IMO.

4. Somewhat different situations
There was no information coming out almost immediately that the Tonkin Gulf attacks were basically fake - those came out later (Johnson apparently read a report on an earlier possible attack and uesd that).

With IWR, the information was coming out almost at the same time the vote was taken, or slightly afterward, that there are no WMD's in Iraq

In short, there are still plenty of people who still believe that the Tonkin Gulf Resolution was legit - more and more, now, are becoming convinced that the IWR was bullshit.

This post is not intended to criticize Kerry's vote, just trying to provide info.

7. When was the vote?
What information was coming out at the time the vote was taken that Cheney had met with the CIA or the yellowcake was forged, etc???
