How the Republicans will win in 2006 and 2008
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 09:07 AM by Ian_rd
The reasons why they should lose

1. Bankrupted the U.S. Treasury with a needless war and the desire to lessen the tax burden of the super rich.

2. Terrorism has exploded under their watch as has hatred of the United States.

3. Failure to take any measures whatsoever to secure our nation from terrorists, and failure to catch any domestic terrorists other than the so-called 19th hijacker.

4. Appointment of unqualified cronies to positions of vital importance whose incompetence has resulted in mass suffering and death.

5. Appointment of industry insiders to oversight positions that has resulted in weakened protections with regard to the environment, the working class, and medical drugs.

6. An increase in poverty under their watch, as well as a decrease of Americans with healthcare, skyrocketing healthcare and education costs while they slash education spending, and a significant increase in the gap between rich and poor.

7. The exposure of a CIA agent for political intimidation that weakened our nation's intelligence regarding foreign nuclear developments, and a cover-up to hide it.

8. An unapologetic disregard for the Constitution in which they swore to uphold, claiming unlimited powers to break the 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments to imprison indefinitely without trial, and search and seize without a warrant.

9. The continued use of torture against detainees whose guilt is in serious doubt, including more than one incident of murder. Even today, the administration transports untried detainees to secret prisons around the world to be brutalized by foreign thugs.

10. A campaign of domestic covert propaganda through bought journalists and fake news reports to manipulate the American public into supporting the administration.

11. A campaign to twist our already laughable science education into a thinly-veiled Christian Sunday School by forcing religious teachings where they do not belong, creating a culture of uncritical thought and laziness to the future thinkers of our society.

12. The prosecution of what must be one of the biggest lies ever perpetrated on a democratic public in order to start a war that had no necessity and continues to result in the death of thousands of U.S. soldiers and God-knows how many Iraqi civilians while creating the biggest recruiting and training ground for anti-American terrorists, certainly exceeding even Osama Bin Laden's wildest dreams.

13. Institutionalizing a culture of political bribery, pay-offs, favors, and cronyism that permeates the White House and Congress.

14. President Bush's 34% approval rating.

15. Abject failure in every conceivable aspect of governance, ethics, and basic morality.

The reasons why they will win

1. Diebold.

2. Gay marriage.

3. Abortion.

4. The Democratic Leadership Council.

1. 4. Millions of Dumbericans who share the same brain.
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 08:58 AM by HughBeaumont
And what does this passed-around brain care about instead of points 1 through 15 above?

1. Little Billy having two mommies.
2. Random women's zygotes.

2. So, I guess we get used to a long war and a generation of tyranny
just so people can feel morally superior.

What do you suggest? The Democratic candidates start talking about outlawing abortion - perhaps even go even further than the Republicans and threaten to sentence any woman seeking or obtaining an abortion with death? And maybe we can advocate having gay people wear pink triangles, like Hitler did.

4. Unfortunately, that's what the DLC thinks
The DLC's predictable formula has been to out-Republican the Republicans, a strategy that might have worked for certain aspects of the Clinton years, but is now leaving a significant percentage of Americans without anyone to support on Election Day.

In fact, I should add the DLC to the list.

24. Such A Powerful Bunch They Must Be, Sir!
It makes me wonder why they even bother with position papers and such, when clearly the mere lift of one of their fingers can move mountains....

3. Please move Diebold to the top of that list
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 09:02 AM by mtnester
some citizens are starting to have the wool lifted from their eyes re: gays and abortions...however, no matter how many people see the truth of anything, as long as they have Diebold and ES&S, we can not win unless we beat HANDILY whatever cheat spread they had the machines calculate.

ON edit - I encourage anyone who is able to vote absentee and personally HAND WALK the thing back to their local BOE.

6. Try-Massive turnout in a midterm when many people are fed up
They seem to be going with the "Hey eveyrone does it" line about all their scandals. They will try to sell the line that it doesn't matter who is in charge they are all corrupt thus disuading fence sitters from voting and they will have a massive get out the vote campaign (much of it not seen by us).

THAT is going to be their strategy.

8. Why they will win?
Diebold. End of story.

How they will stop people from figuring out they cheated and storming the gates? Convincing them that a lot of traditionally dem-voting people voting Repug because of gay marriage, abortion, etc.

13. True. First Diebold fixes the election against impossible odds
... and then the MSM unwittingly plays the shill game for them by inventing reasons why the Republicans won against record Dem voter turn-out and polls. "Moral Values" was their talking point in 2004.

Perhaps this year it will be the surprising number of homosexuals who oppose abortion rights and Katrina victims who consider gay marriage to be their most important issue.

14. I disagree with all of you
I think we'll win this year. The accrual of hits on the repukes is too great for them to overcome even with Diebold. You can only cheat if it's very close. But more important than that is Iraq which has been a tremendous blow to the American psyche. People don't believe it's winnable anymore and they blame the repukes Iraq won't be better in Novermber. It'll be worse. The electorate will it out on the majority party.

I love how people here will show how the repukes will win, but never the Democrats, makes one wonder sometimes.

18. What makes it especially wonderful
is that by "DLC" they mean "any Democrat anyone's ever heard of."

"makes one wonder sometimes."
Actually, by now I'm more or less convinced.

"Maybe one-half of one percent of the USA has even heard of these guys"
0.5% of the US has heard of Hillary Clinton? What a weird delusion.

27. The DLC is irrelevant to Dem hopes in 2006 and 2008
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 03:44 PM by BlueManDude
They are a Belway group that has ZERO meaning to practically the entire US population. They are a DC debating society.

Why are you equating Hillary with the DLC? Just because she's a member doesn't make the DLC relevant. You think people in Poughkeepsie say to themselves "I love/hate that Hillary Clinton, she's a member of the DLC." They don't know, they don't care. It's just not relevant.

People around here love to blame the DLC for everything. I'm not crazy about them but they're not worth getting all hot and bothered about. Most of what they say is demonstably silly.

20. You can't keep conceding defeat like that.
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 09:56 AM by Independent_Liberal
It's a shame so many people around here just want to throw in the towel and not do anything. There ARE things we can do about Diebold machines. As a matter of fact, many states are working on that right now. People who keep saying "we can't win because of Diebold" act like there's nothing we can do. That is completely false. If you keep pouring negativity into a black hole, the bigger it's going to get. That empowers the enemy and makes us look weak. It also makes us look like the Germans who surrendered to tyranny in Nazi Germany. We know massive fraud occurred in the last three elections. We don't say, "We can't win. They control the voting. There's nothing we can do," what we do is we scream our heads off about it and keep doing that until our elected officials do something about the issue. We can't just sweep it under the rug, we have to drag it out into the light where everybody can see it and then people will get mad and demand something be done. You need to realize that just sitting back and doing nothing and whining is just wasting time. Complacency is the same as complicity. We've got to fight that. There's still time for us to act. Like they say, speak now or forever hold your peace. Please remember all of this.

30. They're never going to "stand up"
Witness today's vote on the so called "patriot" act.

That's why they're going to continue not only to lose- but to remain irrelevant. You can already kiss 2006 goodbye. Alito and the events of the following week sealed the deal on that.

I suspect the same holds true for 2008. People don't trust the Dems (as a party) to lead. Not even me.

Why should they?

The same far right enablers will continue to cross over and vote Republican- even if they did manage to eek out a couple of seat majority in one house or another.

31. As sad as that is ...
I am more than discouraged.

Yours was a reality post and it's not easy for us to face what our party has become. I'm tired of being humiliated and overlooked by the party I have volunteered for and financially supported.

That being said, I'll never cross over to the Pub side, but I feel right now like a player without a team.
