More Signs The Port Deal Will Go Ahead........
watching the news after the Olympic Closing Ceremony - when they spoke of the 'port' deal - they indicated that DPW agreed to a 45 day period in which the U.S. can investigate. Then they said that the deal has come under criticism by the Democrats. Then they show tape of Schumer and H.Clinton talking out against the deal. No discussion or pics of Repugs that came out against the deal.

Looks like they want to make it a Dem - Repug issue.

Drudge on the other hand (on his radio show tonight) said something to the effect that - if the deal gets shot down - Americans will be lulled into a false sense of security that they are now safe. He indicated that other ports are controlled by foreign countries - just not UAE.

It's evident that the Repug talking points are being let out at all levels.

Can't wait till Scotty's next news conference.

2. I feel as though I have entered an alternate reality
Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 01:17 AM by OKDem08
this is surreal, beyond belief, suicide. They are selling out Americans and our national security interests.
It's as though the GOP is rearing the revolver and placing it intentionally at its temple.

3. It's too late for what THEY WANT.
Too many are outraged! Dems and Repubs... I was watching Nascar this afternoon and I laughed. Seriously...how many "Nascar dads" can be happy with this port deal? No f'ing way!

Peace.

4. If they want to make it a dems vs. reps issue
I say bring it on. If they're that out of touch with the American people, then let them dig themselves deeper into their hypocrisy.

6. Where are the cops to arrest her ass for threatening people?
That is really totally disgusting and illegal, I would think. I thought if I ever threatened to kill anyone, that would be grounds for a cop to question me at the very least. :grr:

8. The RW love it when Coulter wishes to kill Muslims
You think W or Gonzales wish to stop her, or snoop on her? She's probably on the canned hunt tour with Scalia and Cheney.

7. the landlords (the local port authorities) may be able to terminate
these leases even if bushco shoves this shit deal through. Ny/Nj has already filed suit to accomplish the same on the grounds the landlord did not consent to the lease transfer. I do not know if its a winner yet unless the lease addresses a change in the equity holder of the lessee. Not all commercial interests make this a term that landlord consent is required.

9. McLaughin Group today. It is definitely Iran
Sorry for the repost

John, was saying something to the effect that anyone who flies to UAE goes thru Tehran (I don't know if that was literally thru the airport or over), he said "You know what that means", several times.

I tried look for transcripts on pbs.org but didn't know where to look if there are any.

That's why the tone has changed, Iran (I hope it's just a threat tactic at this point) however, there are security considerations that will have to be considered and I think that is what will be involved in the 45 day review.

That's where I think they are going with this.

10. Here's one for you .....
What do Joe Lieberman, John Warner, John McCain, Bill Frist have in common? Please correct me if I am wrong but .....

Lieberman .... pro port deal, pro military action on Iran. Check.
John Warner ..pro port deal, pro military action on Iran. Check.
John McCain ..pro port deal, pro Military action on Iran. Check.
Bill Frist ...con oops flipped today... pro port deal, pro Military action on Iran. Check.

Am I wrong? Missing something here? Just speculation, could be coincidence. Peace. :)

note: maybe pro military action on Iran borders along the line of 'more outspoken than most on capital hill' about the military action against Iran? Who knows ...... I just don't trust any of the above clowns.

11. I live on the tri state (NJ, DE & PA) . One of the leases, I believe
Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 03:52 AM by I_Make_Mistakes
PA is up for renewal in May (for the stevedores). I was on the puter in the next room so, I caught the May renewal, but am not 100 percent sure that it was PA.

Yes, there could very well be state issues, on top of the federal issues because of security.

One of the morning shows it came out that Bush should not be misleading about security. The stevedores have perimeter security, they unload, move and store the cargo contractually within the port areas, and also have access to the minimal security policies that are in place around the ports. The security issues are not as black and white as the admin. is presenting and the Satan is in the details.

On edit:

I also wanted to add, I believe it was Shummer who pointed out, this is not about an Arab country taking over the ports, it has to due with co's affiliated with terrorists. He would accept East Timor of Chechnya (I know I butcherd that name) either.

The UAE has become an ally, but we must remember OBL was an ally, Saddam was an ally, Saudi is an ally etc., and by whom's decision (what admin's had the deals). I am not saying that UAE is bad, but I think, once again Satan is in the details.

12. geez . . . talk about biased reporting . . . here's a prime example . . .
just report on the Democrats who oppose the ports takeover -- and ignore all the Republicans who also oppose it . . .

no wonder the American people are so misinformed, ill-informed, and/or uninformed (depending on the issue) . . . that's precisely what BushCo intends . . .

Scotty: ....we won't discuss an on-going review. The president feels this will distract attention from the War on Terror, and to release any information will just help our enemies....
